Buler Seaflower, a mystrious 60s Skin Diver

I love to scrolle trough eBay in the evenings looking for obscure vintage watches. When I saw this Buler Seaflower from1964 I quickly grabbed my wallet. I since have sold it on, but i still like looking at the pictures I made. It ist has super unusual combination of engine turned bezel, Submariner style dial and the broad arrow handset. Fascinating, that a 7 ATM "Waterproof" watch with a 35 mm diameter counted once as a "Dive Watch".

What do you think?

I have to admit, I really like the bezel, also.

It’s a 1960s skin diver - so cool.

Word of advice to anybody wanting to dabble in these, from someone who has a lot of vintage, and has a few of these sorts of things - please, please, please check the movement. Depending on what it is you may have problems down the line.

A lot of older movements in these sort of watches were cheap(er) pin-pallet movements, designed to be ripped out and replaced rather than maintained, and these are harder to repair 50-60 years down the line. Many watch repairers just don’t bother. You could look for a donor movement, but depending on what it is you may have to pay a pretty penny to even find one to cannibalise for parts. If you haven’t yet, take it to a watch specialist so they can give you the low down, or pop the back and take a few pictures and email one.

Please don’t take this as me trying to ruin it for you, these are gorgeous watches, and I’m a big fan of this style so I wish everyone many years of enjoyment with them. I hope the movements you find are a decent mechanical, so repair and maintenance is cheap(er) and hassle-free.
