I’ve been talking about getting a watch box for quite a while now, as my watch collection has been scattered on various tables and drawers. So my wife decided to buy me one ❤️
I have been eyeing up this Rothwell 10-slot box, but after reviewing my collection goals I think I’ll ultimately need the 12-slot. My wife also liked the color of the 12-slot box better. There you go… always listen to your wife.
The watch box even has a neat drawer to hold my cuff links, lapel pins, pocket watches, and other trinkets. The 5th slot at the top is reserved for my grandfather’s Fossil, which I need to have cleaned and the battery replaced. The remaining watches I’m after include:
- TAG Heuer Carrera with the Seton Hall University logo engraved in the dial. This will be my reward once I’ve finished paying off my student loans.
- 2001 Michael Schumacher edition Omega Speedmaster automatic. This will be a nice piece once I’ve acquired my first rental property.
- Omega Speedmaster ‘57. I’d like to get one of these once I complete my first house flip.
- Rolex Explorer. I’ve always loved these, and plan to get one once I’ve become a certified commercial real estate appraiser and have gained the MAI designation.
These four watches should take me years to acquire and will round out the watch box nicely. I love vintage watches though, and I‘ll likely repurpose this box to contain vintage pieces to buy, restore, and sell. I’ll need a 12-slot box for the next two:
- Chopard Mille Miglia in rose gold. I saw one of these 5 years ago and fell in love. I’d like to acquire one after accomplishing my goal of 10 rental properties… if I can actually run in the Mille Miglia as well, then that would be a major experience to add to my book of life.
- Rolex Datejust. Six years ago my girlfriend (now wife) and I brought our families into Manhattan for the day. My dad and I walked into the Rolex store to look at the displays and dream. He seemed to really like a black dialed DJ, and simultaneously a blue dialed DJ caught my eye. I set a goal that day to be able to buy both watches for my dad and I. With my dad being a contractor, I plan to use him when doing house flips. So I thought that maybe once we’ve completed our tenth flip, I’ll celebrate the milestone by getting those two DJs.
So what about you?
What watches would you purchase to fill a 10-12 slot watch box? Would each watch have a story? I love seeing what watches other enthusiasts are into and how they build their collections.

That's a great plan - milestones with matching watches.
Also, a good way to ensure you have a meaningful collection rather than 'a bunch of watches'. I'm currently trying to transition from the latter to the former!
One day I'll do an elaborate post with pics of my favourite watches and any significance they have. For now:
My Citizen Eco-Drive collection, for example, started with a blue angels world chrono. I love that watch, have had it since about 2009 or 10, and acquired it by reaching a sales target at work. It's been trouble- free. I turned my dad onto Eco-Drive and he picked one up as a result a few years back.
I've acquired a couple of other quartz chronos through work (such as the MINI chrono I posted a few days ago) via purchase or as a reward.
Automatic / mechanical watches are a more-recent interest. That started with an Invicta I bought on a whim... It's got a replica of a car rim which spins above the brake caliper themed dial and below the hands. It's giant and heavy and the strap has a tire tread motif. I've worn it 6 times, maybe 8. Bad choice in design for me (but not knocking invicta at all). It keeps good time at least.
As far as 'most' meaningful...
I got my engagement / birthday /Valentine's day / every holiday for 2023 watch from my wife a few weeks ago. We've been married almost 12 years! It was worth waiting for as we chose it together (which was super great!) and I finally got to enjoy a 'luxury' experience. It's one of the watches on your list, and for whatever dumb reason I still feel awkward about discussing it, like I don't deserve it or something, or shouldn't be bragging.
That experience has changed the way I look at watches, and I'm going to resist the urge to buy more inexpensive watches just to thicken the collection. I'd rather save up and enjoy the premium experience again.
Thanks for sharing!
Lovely story! I would look forward to your review of the Rothwell box as well
I had this box on my bday list but then that was too long away and straps getting out of hand so ordered the brown one last week ha. i think I’ll stick to 10, was harder for me to choose the color!
I recently got the Rothwell box in brown. My only complaint is that the cushions are too large for my slender wrists. Otherwise I like it!

Thank you for sharing! I love hearing about other peoples' collections and how they acquired what is in their watch box. Your newest piece sounds special, and you should be proud of it!

Good idea! I can review it now and give my first thoughts, and then again down the road to see how it holds up

Yeah I really wanted to stick to 10, but 12 would be better I think. Granted, 4 slots are taken up by watches that are purely sentimental and I wouldn't necessarily have purchased them on my own. So for that reason I don't feel bad demanding 2 extra spots haha.

Ahh yes I can see that being a problem. My wrists are 6.5" and getting even more slender as I'm on a diet. I already have to remove a half link from my Omega. If my wrist gets any smaller I think I will have the same issue that you described.
