Great vid, good choices - @Max what's the strap on the sbgm221? I think I need it.

Thanks!  That's one from the strap tailor 👍

Thanks for video - wishing you all at Team WC a happy and healthy holiday season!

·

Thanks buddy, happy holidays 🙌

I definitely think Cartier needs to be in that list somewhere, be it the Santos you mentioned or the Tank (Solarbeat maybe?) considering Cartier is outselling all other watchmakers bar Rolex.

Great video Max and Merry Christmas to all at team WC 🥳🎄🎉

@Max  😀 I enjoyed watching your videos and enjoy your content very much please take the words below as conversation and not criticism of your work in the video. I just like to talk to and debate sometimes 😉

At the $250 I think there are some very good quartz offerings and a lot of mechanical offerings that are not good. I would have to say that I like the vintage flavored offerings of Dan Henry in the $250-$500 price range.

At the $500 range I have to go with the Maen Hudson 38 MK4 Jet Black no date. ($519.20 Euro). That watch is exquisite and well laid out beautiful finishing and a swiss made movement. 30 ATM water resistance 38mm 46 lug to lug the dimensions are great. I can't say enough good things about it. The only drawbacks I can think of (I own the llimited edition Sanghwal) is that the bezel is unidirection instead of bi directional and it does have a ghost date position. None the less it is an awesome watch for the price. https://www.maenwatches.com/products/hudson-38-automatic-no-date-jet-black

At the $1000 category (yes its another Maen) the soon to be released Maen Skymaster 38 MKII Reverse Panda is my pick. Though it comes in all black and Panda standard also as far as colorways. 38mm diameter makes this an awesome size with 46mm lug to lug very wearable. ETA 2894-2 Swiss movement there is a lot to love here. https://www.maenwatches.com/products/skymaster-38-inverted-panda This very well may be my first mechanical chronograph for my collection.

Another contender at the $1000 price point:  (where is the love for quartz man?) I would like to put for the Casio G-Shock MTGB3000BD12 which was released earlier in 2022. You get a chrono, atomic time, a date window, day of the week, solar, and tough as nails G-Shock construction all in a large but very aesthetically pleasing face and case. There is a lot to love here man. https://www.casio.com/us/watches/gshock/product.MTG-B3000BD-1A2/

Last in the $1000 price point I would like to mention the Bulova Curv. The unique proprietary quartz 262kHz movement that is curved to match the case is awesome. The accuracy is incredible (even more so compared to "normal quartz watches). The case can be large for smaller wrist but is comfortable to wear and the exhibition caseback on the newer Curv models is very cool. It may retail at $995 but you can almost always get it for less which makes it attractive cost wise. I also own one of these in the chocolate brown and it is truly a handsome watch that I am glad to have in my collection. https://www.bulova.com/us/en/product/98A231.html?cgid=mens-curv

At the $2000 price point I have to say you picked well with the Longines Spirit 37. That is a handsome watch I just would of went with the no date version heh but they do make them in no date versions so kudos of them for a diverse offering of what I think is a great watch.

At the $3000 price point the TB58 is a good pick IMHO. I think they are nice looking watches esp the blue version, and though I cannot stand the snowflake hands and wont be buying one I see how people can love and enjoy them.

I am skipping $4k and $5k no opinions there lol  😀

At the Top End there I would have to exchange the Speedy "moon watch" for the Speedmaster 57 because I personally like the vintage styling better as well as the measurements, but it is a lil more expensive at $7250 according to their website  https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/watch-omega-speedmaster-57-chronograph-38-6-mm-31110393001001

Great options!  You should see what Maen is cooking up for the spring 😉

·

The older Bambino with the cream dial is my favorite purchase this year. Very accurate and elegant

·

Just watched the vid and very well done. Love seeing IWC take a dub! As for the 4K range, I think the Black Bay Pro deserved a win or atleast an honorable mention.

Yeah the BB pro was definitely in the running, just didn't want 2 Tudors one after the other 😅

·

Solid list. I concur.

I definitely figured that was the case. I'm also all about avoid redundancy!

yes! agree about Cartier, also because it provides a different case shape to the list. and Cartier has taken the second spot among luxury Swiss watchmakers.

·

Seeing the Longines Spirit 37 on the list really helps with my post-purchase rationalization.

Very good presentation! I'm firmly in the camp of liking Max Bill's designs and so I agree with your ranking of the Max Bill automatic. You also made me think again about the GS SBGM221. It's not a Spring Drive model, it's a bit too thick to be truly elegant, but man, what a dial!

Here's my top seven. The watches I've picked are based on GBP so please forgive me if they don't match with USD.

0-500: Seiko Prospex Quartz Diver SNE573P1 or Tissot PRX

501-1000: Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm Murph

1001-2000: Grand Seiko SBGX261

2001-3000: Longines Avigation Bigeye Chronograph 41mm

3001-4000: Tudor Pelagos FXD

4001-5000: Montblanc1858 Geosphere

+ 6000: Rolex Datejust 36mm

So as you can see I've leaned more towards smaller watches and watches you could class as daily wears. What I've found though is that there appears to be a lack of watches in that 4-5k mark. I wonder if there is this psychological thing of pricing watches below £3500 and anything over that you might as well just go straight to £5k.

So...what does the watch crunch community think of my pics, I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
