The new 40mm Seagull 1963 Moon is magic ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I've owned the 38 and even though it was a great value, the proportions didn't fit quite right. Took a chance on the new 40mm moon phase and it kicks butt ๐Ÿ™Œ.

$300 column wheel chronograph? Double yes!

Ha! Iโ€™m still on the fence about the bulova you reviewed last week the lunar one in blue dialโ€ฆletโ€™s say if you have an option regardless of price would you go Omega speedy Hesalite or bulova lunar ? I know itโ€™s a stupid question but hey im stuck at home with rowdy kids and it snowing so ๐Ÿ˜‚

ยท

Yeah...I did this thing instead of the Moonswatch, and saved myself $80 in the process:

Straight up between the Speedy Pri and the Lunar Pilot, definitely the Speedy Pro. I did sell my speedy pro, however, to buy me a Grand Seiko Snowflake and a Lunar Pilot, and I am very happy about that. Although, I do find myself longingly staring at every used Speedy Pro on the market. ๐Ÿ˜

All that to say, you cannot remove the price from the equation.

If I did one now, it'd be 3 hours long ๐Ÿคฃ. Trying to split it into smaller videos.

Thanks for a great review. I briefly owned a Sea-Gull a few years ago and it was a nice watch with the same movement as the 1963. I bought it mainly because I wanted a watch with a column wheel movement, which was another lesson it watch buying, never buy a watch solely for the movement. I sold it to make room for a much better, and commensurately more expensive, piece. I never really liked the 1963 and until I saw this video, never really knew why. The 40mm version is much, much better looking and doesn't look as cheap. Still not to my taste these days, but it looks like it should cost double the quoted rate. Definitely a big improvement. It looks great on your wrist!

I really like my 40mm Seagull 1963 - especially because it's proud to be a Chinese watch. WC and other watch forums always talk about the issues with the fakes and the clomages (spelling?) being made in China, so to see a watch so brazenly proud to be made in China is great, and I'm not even Chinese.

Haha!! I was thinking the same ! I was ok since I passed on the speedy Iโ€™ll get a GS Gmt and a bulova to satisfy but like you after a day Iโ€™ll be salivating all over the Speedy pro again hahaha!!

Great video as always. You mentioned a site you purchased the watch from as an alternative to AliExpress because they check the watches arriving from China before sending them to you. Are there any other sites that do that?

I am really really tempted by the ST-19 column wheel chrono especially at those prices but have heard about questionable QC and would pay more if there was a seller who checked to make sure everything was working before they send it to you.

Seagull1963.com is where I got mine. I think Mark at long island also does good QC.

I'm pretty sure @Max needs this one... it's the watch built by the community he built...

I'd add that it being a more or less authorized replica of the original adds additional points since it isn't actually an homage or fake.

ยท

Where to buy it??

ยท

Blows my mind that you can get a mechanical chronograph AND Moon phase at that price!

ยท

Very nice video, as usual! I also owned a 38, and have since dispatched it into the void. I hope some dial variations will be forthcoming, as I don't care for the moon phase dial at all.

ยท

I have both a1963, and a Mission to Jupiter. The MoonSwatch get's worn fairly regularly, the 1963 sits in a drawer...

It's not that the 1963 is worse than the MoonSwatch, but as an occasional wear it's far less convenient than a quartz watch that requires no setting.

ยท

Iโ€™ve been looking at this watch and love the 38mm. Any of you guys in the UK bought one recently as Amazon of all places have them!!

ยท

Great video!!

ยท

Great video. I lucked out and got a reasonably good one from Aliexpress, no issues with it so far. Great value for money as mentioned. On a leather strap it looks great. The Chrono complications work well and the caseback looks a lot better than it should for the price. All in all itโ€™s a great watch if you get a good example. Disagree about proportions comment, yes itโ€™s a little odd somewhat but only because itโ€™s a small watch overall, but it is more true to the vintage size this is going for.
