Speedy Tuesday Double Feature

Had the pleasure of getting these 2 together for a video. I think the common complaint is that omega puts out too many special editions, but these are different. You can tell a lot of thought were put into them. Thanks @JesseJ for helping me film this one!

Would you be in line to buy a Speedy Tuesday ST3 if OMEGA made one?

I really want to like Speedmasters. I mean, so many cool people clearly do. I’m just not into them, at least the original design (Please, not need for pitchforks).

No watch is for everyone. Can you explain what you don't like about the design?

So that’s the thing, I really can’t say there is anything I dislike. But there‘s also nothing I really like. Helpful comment, I know.  And no shade to folks who lI’ve these watches, like you said, no watch is for everyone.

I think if I had to describe the design I would call it complicated monotony, if that makes sense.  It has multiple subdials, the tach meter on the bezel, and it all just kind of runs together.  lots of the same color everywhere.  I think some more distinction or breakup of the complications (which is done in many other Speedmaster models) would be more appealing, to me.

Of all of their models I did think the ‘57s that just came out were nice. And the silver snoopy as well. I think that’s because there is some distinction by color of the different areas of the dial. The original just feels like a lot of the same on the dial and the bezel.

I did just buy the new Tudor Ranger, which many will argue, successfully, is a boring watch. But boring for a simple 3 hander is different than boring for a chronograph, again, for me.  I think a boring time only watch is a good thing.

One day I hope to own the JLC Master Chronograph.  I’ll have to do some introspection on why I like this one over others. The answer is probably, “because it’s a JLC”.

I would be first in line to buy a speedy with that easter egg.

I think one great thing about monotonous designs is that it can focus on geometry and spacing. The Junghans Max bill comes to mind.

Plus these watches are often strap monsters!

I totally agree! And I think the Max Bill is awesome. It’s interesting how different watch tastes can be. Personally I feel like Richard Mille watches are hideous, but the apparently have a huge following. I’m curious, Max, are you into Richard Mille? My guess is no 😎

I try and keep an open mind about different designs. RM is certainly different than the classic designs we are talking about. But there are aspects of what RM does like innovative use of materials and novel designs that I can appreciate. Would I buy one?  Probably not

Love the ST1!!!

Excellent video Max - really enjoy the pacing and depth of material, and, of course, the great high quality production.

What I'd love to see is a Speedy Tuesday that uses subdials (three) in the colors of the Heuer Skipper.

That would be an amazing combination.

Those greens would accomplish @Ichibunz suggestions on getting WatchCrunch green into the dial.

Oh that's a great idea!  Like speedy yacht timer?  🤩

Max!  I find it misleading that every single shot of a speedmaster shows a sweeping central second hand.  All YouTube vids seems to perpetuate this.  I love a big sweep second hand but nobody looking at their speedy wrist ever sees this, excepting the very rare time the chrono is needed.  I agree it looks great but it should be parked boringly straight up like it is in regular use.

despite the above rant , I still expect I’ll get one and will join the fast second workday club with whatever model you co-create 🙂
