SBGW is Grand Seiko's Oyster Perpetual

I've realized that Grand Seiko is taking the OP approach with their SBGW line. But when you look closer, these watches are actually very different in their details. But does this justify all the special editions that sell out in a day?

These are both beautiful and I think that their release is justified (just as some sort of re-release will be in a few years). I think that you are right the the subtle differences give them each a different appeal.  For now, I prefer the green, but the 1970's sports watch vibe is strong too.

Yes, lots of uniqueness to each piece, even in the dimensions!

SBGW really needs a power reserve indicator on the back.. I have 3 of them and it’s a pita to know if it’s wound or not.

Oh you actually set your watches?  I just try and keep it at 10&2 while the camera is on 🤣

The 289 is almost perfect especially that it has a bracelet and 100m wr. Taper the bracelet, add micro adjustment and add a bunch of dial colors. I do think it’s a bit expensive though. I know an OP can’t be found new right now but the retail is less than this.

Yep, they've really got something here with the 289. Watch out Rolex 😎

If the 231 and co had any real amounts of water resistance it would be a good candidate for my one watch collection...  Hopefully they release a non limited version of the small GS case soon...

289 can take my money all day. As @roberto said, more versatile and they can go absolutely crazy with dials here.

I’ve only just appreciated it‘s more expensive than the OP. A better watch though IMO but yes, those GS prices are creeping North!

I would accept comparisons with the pricing of the OP if it was made available to the masses at retail but in reality it isn't.  And this is what GS is probably banking on.  As long as OP prices remains higher than retail, they will take advantage of that.
