Moser: COOL or just WEIRD?

A buddy rolled through town with this Moser streamliner and let me spent a few days with it. I thought it was a very interesting watch and a different take on a high horology sports watch. But is it just quirky for quirky sake?

video (as usual) and that is one gorgeous watch.  Hard to know if i'd spend 20k on it... i dont really have 20k kind of expendable income.  But it certainly looks worth the money. Love that they do every little thing in-house!

Hey Max, great video, thanks for showing us something not that mainstream!

I love this watch. I had the chance in November to try it on a watch event from another collector. I was just this week at my AD and they will try to source it for me via their branches in Austria or France, cause my AD doesn't offer it in Germany. I am thinking of exchanging it with my Rolex Hulk.

It sits awesome on my wrist, as on many other wrists due to the missing lugs. It is a bit thick for a 3-hander, but the overall shape makes it very pleasing. The hands with the ceramic-lume are so unique and fit perfect on the empty fumé dial. I am absolutely in love with the organic dragon-shed bracelet that creates a perfect package with this case shape.

For a luxury steel watch with this finish and unique design I find it priced well with 20k€. It sits next to the Overseas, somewhere between the Octo Finissimo and the Royal Oak/Nautilus/Odysseus prices. And it is not another rip-off of Genta design watches.

Awesome video, incredible watch.

Definitely an intriguing piece. Moser hits that sweet spot of a design language so seemingly minimalist but so thought provoking and engaging at the same time. The asking price is steep but if you have the cash, it’s haute horology done to a very classy and unique level and would hold its own in any collection.

Very cool piece. I think it takes a real collector and watch lover to purchase a piece like this. Love that dial.

·

Awesome video!  I would take the Moser over the equivalent AP, PP, and VC sports pieces all day, everyday.

They've done something truly unique here.  Per Pascal's comment, it's nice to see something this beautiful, at such levels of craftsmanship, that isn't another Genta knock-off.

As haute horology goes, imho it knocks it out of the park. It’s their take in an integrated bracelet, or Moser could say evolution. BTW the case back looks like spring bars, so a custom strap could be possible or dare they make a rubber strap ha. For me and that $$ I would need some complications. That dial jz has too much real estate, but noticed this trend with AP 15500, Tudor Royal etc

An excellent video with a lot of insights!  When this piece was first released, I thought that this would be the first watch from Moser that I would like to get.  I even talked to an AD about getting one.  But I didn't pull the trigger.  There are just too many choices in new watches and I ended up getting other watches in this category.  But it looks like a really stunning watch in your video.

Totally agree with you guys, this watch is above my typical budget 😅, But I can appreciate the design, the craftsmanship and the originality of the whole thing 👍

Great video. The description of the strap as being "reptillian" is perfect - I had previously been trying to think of a way to describe it and that hits the nail squarely on the head. I also never previously noticed that the font of the "M" on the crown doesn't match the traditional Moser script font.

It's beyond my budget, but the Moser Streamliner Perpetual Calendar is one watch that I'd love to be able to add to my collection - without a doubt the most "streamlined" perpetual calendar I've ever seen.

It is hard for a brand to truly differentiate in a saturated integrated bracelet market, but Moser manage to do this with a unique offering in the streamliner collection! It is a breath of fresh air whilst having the characteristic Moser cues (fumè dial).

I would say the retail price is just about fair, but less so at the market price.

I'm a huge Moser mark - but even with watch brands I'm fans of, I still manage to not cotton to some of the watches they make (I own two Rolex but have no interest at all in, say, the Cellini line or the Explorer).

Overall, as Watches.and.Scratches notes above, I think the listed prices of Moser watches are fair, while the "market" I pay no attention to goes gaga over stuff that's in short supply. Crazy.

As for this one? I like it, but I'm not sure I care for the bracelet, regardless of the obvious quality. Doesn't mean I don't think Moser rocks, and hard.

Had the chance to try the Streamliner Chrono at my local AD and I have to admit, it is not for everyone. I distinctly recall Ed Meylon say in an interview that they have to make their watches standout so that when in a lineup of ubiquitous other obvious choices, buyers will pick them over the competiton. Just look at that movement and finishing. Insane (So is the price 😵).

Moser is the first independent watch brand that I truly liked. Team Moser has done an excellent job in distinguishing their brand from the rest of the field. Their pieces really stand out.  I also agree with watches.Scratches and TemerityB that the price is fair but unfortunately, I feel, unreachable for many interested collectors, myself included.

What did you end up getting?

I ended up placing an order for a Lang & Heyne Hektor in green dial last Oct. I am still waiting for the deliver. I guess that there two pieces are in the same category.
