The porsche design chronograph 1 isn't just another movie prop, it was the first all black watch with a legendary movement designed by the man who gave us the 911 sports car.
In light of the new movie, I take a detailed look into this iconic watch, and was thoroughly impressed. I think this watch is held back by it's perception as Porsche merch 😞. Any other watches that live in the shadow of another product?

Awesome video, Max!!!
I hope Butzi Porsche designed the PD Chronograph 1 better than he did the 911!!!
"Hey guys, I got a great idea! Let's stick the engine in the back, where it doesn't belong, so that it'll experience snap oversteer and kill the driver!"
Real sports cars have mid-engine layouts!
[Cue @Scooby explaining to everyone why any car designed after 1980 is a travesty.]

What idiocy is this? Do you understand cars at all man? Next you'll be telling me that the S1 Quattro deserved to be pulled from competition. You've got to believe that every drive may be your last to truly hear the car sing. And those spectators should have moved.
Well, it's a great looking piece, but I error on the side of caution with car brand watches, but it is a stunner!!!

Remember, they are just squashed beetles.
I actually had a Cayman S at one point, back when they handicapped them so they didn't steal 911 sales.
The Carrera GT is still my Grail 💕

Cayman S! This is Max when not making videos for WatchCrunch...
I have always wanted to love Porsche Design. I got into watches because of PD. Got this...
... and this...
They can look the business. Only problem is that lug-to-lug is obscene on both the Datetimer and the Chronotimer! If I'm not mistaken, it's something like 55mm+ lug-to-lug, rendering them positively unwearable for anyone with an arm smaller than this...
Its Cos-play in the watch world now. The meetup would look like comic con.
Everything from James Bond to Ripley.
I have hovered over the buy button on Dan Henrys site since tuesday when I saw Top Gun 2.

Really went off the deep end on this one 😂
Great video Max - I think this is your best yet!
I really appreciate that you dedicated so much time to the history of the reference and discussed the variation in movements together with the subsequent releases by other brands.
Very comprehensive and entertaining review in under 10 minutes.
Bravo!

Thank you, I have trouble with videos 10+ min long, so I try to pack it in and get to the point 😉
Great video! You really pulled out all the stops on this video, and looks like you had alot of fun too. Nice change of pace and well researched like always 👌 thank you!

Thanks! Gotta do a "watch movie" once a while to get all the feels out 😉

Well you know you are not a real man deserving of a singing flat 6 unless you got wrists like the rock 😉
Great Review . My kid wants to be a Naval or Marine Aviator. He's been waiting a couple years to see this film. Albeit he's a RESCO (Real tool watch IMO) We had to deck ou in our Blue Angel support gear for the movie. A movie watch review would be cool. We lost Sonny, Paulie and Henry recently. Would be good to know every watch worn in a film - right down the most minor characters.
Good to see you gave @HotWatchChick69 some gentle ball busting on the 911. I'm a GT3 fan BUT I do wish Maverick drove n rode some Merican iron . The original Top Gun would be sadly represented by US products. Today we could've added some winners 🏆
Mav would drive this -
He'd ride this
And wear this
Ok that was a shameless plug for my favorite microbrand. This piece has a tool watch cerakote gun blue finish. Mav's a Naval Aviator so why not wear a watch produced by a Navy SEAL? You should call those guys- I'm sure they would let you review their watches
Or maybe this makes more sense for a pilot?
I digress. I do like the flight suite. You are flight fit Brother. So glad Hanibal Lecter didn't wear an iconic watch! Wonder what agent Starling wore?

That marathon looks so legit. Good to see the Corvette heads embracing the "European"engine placement change 😉.

LOL I do loves me some plastic and fat tires! Marathon would be a solid review! That image is the Jumbo SAR = will look like a 10 speed bike wheel on either of our wrists. BTW, I do dig the Porsche Design watch. Must have killed @HotWatchChick69 to see Mav's girlfriend roll up in an old 911. Probably on loan from Seinfeld

Ah... Jennifer Connelly... My favorite movie of all time? No, not Citizen Kane. Yeah, Hotel Rwanda was a good flick, but still no. Schindler's List? Meh. Beaches? I love me a good tear-jerker, but even good ol' Bette Midler can't win. Nope.
I think she drives a Caprice Classic in the movie. Would take that over the '73 911! 😜
@Max I see some of the 7176S 7750 "1 mile" units have a marker right of the date and some do not. Do you know which one the movie had, and why there is a difference? Also you can see the markers are different on the top unit. Are one of these altered or did they have two instances of a 7750?

If this helps, the photo on top is a Lemania version. That might be why!
