How to build a 4 watch collection for $2000

Call this one the looming recession special 😅. Last time I made a similar video at the $10k mark, people asked for a lower price point. Well I accepted an impossible challenge at $2k.

How did we do?  Which microbrand is your fav right now?

Cheers!

Zelos coming up !!

Would be interesting to see one of these at the sub- 500 mark, from someone such as yourself has experience with the higher end. Just a thought.

Wow, that might be the AliExpress collection 😉

Also like my Clemence Photic I went with the blue dial.

Image

Also really like my Borealis Sintra that I got for around the same price

Image

And liked it so much I’ve pre-ordered their gmt.

Rounding out my four favourite micros is my E. C. Andersson

Image

And a new one for me that I’m keeping an eye on Echo/Neutra

Image

A mechanical field watch with moonphase and date complications for under $900.

These four together will take you over 2000 and getting closer to 3000 but they’re all really nice.

Vario and Zelos also Paulin and Farer are my favs at the moment…

How perfect is that!!! Nezumi did a watch for Anthrax!! The metal band.

Could be, could be….

Or, Orient, Sekonda, Accurist, Casio, Rotary, Invicta, Cestrian…

·

Thanks for introducing Maen and I really like their Hudson 38, definitely could be my aspirational 1st Swiss watch. Any Maen owners in our group...besides Max?

Even with ali that would be tight. But still fun…

I’ve got my eye on the echo/neutra as well.

This is my sweet spot right now. $2,000. You've got to know yourself and what makes you comfortable and happy. Of course I would make exceptions for Rolex and the Speedy.

·

Helm watches look good , I don’t own one but read up a bit and have seen some hi def pics

I liked 75% of the watches you demoed, the one I didn't was the chrono because I'd rather not buy another meca with a useless 24hr register.

They sent me both and the mechanical was too thick 😔

Loved the video. It has me thinking about that Lorier. Many of the Explorer type watches I've looked at use the Mercedes hands, making it look more like a homage. I like that Lorier did their own thing with the hands and the face, and the price is right.

That's why I prefer it over the smiths 👍

Pretty good pics. I think I would opt for a three watch collection though at this price point and maybe get a German brand of some sort in there like Sinn or Junghans. May be a stretch but possible!

I'm microbranded out right now. Going to focus on my first Omega this year. But for now this is my microbrand crew:

I told my non watch buddy to get that Serica and he's very happy 😊

Max the Zorro comparison shows your age :) Adam West from Lost in Space  , I am supposed to know I was a kid of the 60s:)

·

Think you may have talked me into a Lorier Falcon III. After all, what’s one more watch, right? I don’t need groceries that bad.

Yeah I think fasting is totally in fashion 😂

Depressing side note, start:  The 'plant a tree' thing is often just greenwashing - it typically means dropping a seedling with little to no knowledge of whether it's correct or appropriate for the environment.  And they typically act like that dropped seedling = a healthy fully grown tree that instantly is removing it's full share of CO2.   Shady science.  Lastly it's also morphed into a big business that allows greenwashing for very little outlay.

I'm a nutty environment guy.  I'm 100% behind environmental projects but this one is suspect.

Depressing side note, end.

The Nezumi chrono looks cool, but it is also the Japanese word for 'rat'.  Odd choice. 🤷‍♂️

Great combo Max. Interesting how you didn't include a GMT in the 4-watch collection. If you did, which of these 4 would you leave out? Or could you squeeze a GMT in and make it 5 watches?

Right, I think the quality of the NGO matters here. The devil's always in the implementation.

I think the nodus sector GMT is a good fit in this group 👌

Absolutely. Any Sector would work. Indeed, any Nodus could be worked into this mix.

Also, a Vario Would be a nice fit.

·

As always, fun video! And also great choices 🍻.

·

I would definitely consider the Wise hitman for the cheap alternative to the rolex explorer..im just anxiously waiting for them to launch the watch with the original wise logo unlike the bland font on the dial.

So what was that really cool looking olive drag green watch roll that is seen in the background? I'd love to pick one up.
