Ok this is more of a mental exercise but if I had a 10k budget to work with, this is how I would spend it.
What's your collection strategy? One of my friends is trying to collect every dial color. He's up to 11 😉

I wish I had the discipline or personality to be a 3 watch (+1) collector. I feel like a lot of us can relate, wishing we were minimalist and content with three watches in a neat handmade box while in reality having upwards of ten watches scattered all around the house.

I've given up on the dream of getting down to single digits... But if I was grooming a non-watch friends for the hobby ...🤔
I’m someone like this who only collects a few watches. I justified myself spending a bit more if I only own a few watches at a time. Right now I have 2 + 1 with the BB58, SBW231 and a Casio W800. If my wrist was bigger I’d definitely switch out that GS for this SBGM221 and add a Moonwatch. I’ll probably end up doing just that some day to finish off my 3 + 1 collection.
I am really trying to work towards a core collection of 4 watches (explorer, santos, Pelagos 39, and Speedy, halfway there) plus about 4 more sentimental/affordable/G-Shocks. Not quite a 3+1, but as small as I think I can get
This is the reality, the video is pure conjecture 🤣

Great combo Brett! Have you tried the speedy on the new bracelet? Game changer 👍
I even don't like to think of myself as a watch collector. It's not a collection. Collection is something that is covered by dust on the shelf. You wouldn't eat your morning eggs with 17th century silver spoon if you are a collector of those. So I'm a user. And I admit that 😂. So I carefully choose what I want to try and wear next and add that to the rotation. Don't have any watch that wouldn't see the light in a month.
its a fun game, i try to play along
dresswatch jlc reverso monoface 5000$
chronograph nivada grenchen chronomaster 1760$
gmt glycine airman dc4 850$
diver lorier neptune 500$
and 1890$ worth of beer
I was so close to being a 4 watch collector. And then I wasn't.
I have no idea what happened.
🤷
I like to think of myself as a 3 (+24) collector. This is how I delude myself into thinking I have discipline. So far I've assembled the (+24) so just need to work on the 3. My strategy is working out perfectly.
I was able to get my Seamaster 300M new from an AD for 3.2k, so keep that in mind.
Diver: Omega Seamaster 300M, 3.2K
GMT: Longines Spirit Zulu Time on strap, 2.9K
Chrono: Fortis Cosmonauts Amadee-20. Made for going to the moon. 3.7k
Beater/quartz: Rubiks cube G-Shock. $150.

I haven’t but that’s what I’ve heard! It also looks much better than the old version.

Same brotha, SAME.
Great choice! I would go for a dressier option for the second watch, chronographs are not for me. Yet. So maybe another nice GS? Or how about a Cartier Tank? So many options...
well in fact if we all live at the nearby area im willing to share all of them with fellow cruncher while "talking watches" 😂
I'm beginning to learn that my 'Wristwatch History of my Lifetime' collection will never be finished. Why?
So, maybe I actually do this, and here's how it might go.
The Diver - The Mido Ocean Star GMT, ref. M026.629.22.051.00
A 200M diver with a GMT that could be dressed up/down with straps? Yes, please. I also fancy the coppery PVD pink gold coating. $1400
The GMT
See 'The Diver'
The Beater - The Citizen Navihawk A-T Eco-Drive, ref. JY8035-04E
I already have 3 G-Shocks and would likely still keep one from my current collection, so an EcoDrive with all the functionality of the Navihawk would be hard to pass on. $500
The Chronograph - Omega Speedy Pro ref. 310.30.42.50.01.001
Which then leaves me $8100 to get the Grail, but it is only $6400, so as a bonus since I combined the Diver & GMT...
...a bronze Oris Big Crown Pointer Date, ref. 01 754 7741 3168-07 5 20 58BR
Yes, I went over by ~$400-500, but with some of the proceeds from selling my current pieces, I feel that is a great 3+1 collection for $10K.
Very eclectic, love it 👏👏
To be less glib...
Today, I'd get (preowned) 2 Sinn (U50 and 240), a GO Senator, and a DW5600.
Could all that fit under $10K?
Before inflation lol
That would be more a $5000 budget collection, but at the next pricepoint I fail to see the value. Then I rather save up for a Lange Odysseus, or a PP Calatrava.
3
+ 1
Great video Max - really enjoyed it.
I watch these videos and think - who can stop at just 3 or 4 watches? Not me.
This is my collecting strategy...
I am sure that you look just fine in "skinny jeans". But, that Casio.....ugh.
Nice!
Here's a $500 version for the value fans:
Diver: Orient Mako III, $176 (in-house movement, sapphire, 200M)
Chronograph: Seagull 1963, $170 (in-house movement, acrylic, backstory)
GMT: Vostok Komandirskie 65039, $125 (in-house movement, acrylic, backstory)
Beater: Casio F108WHC-7BCF, $22 (in-house quartz movement, and it's white, because...)
Total: $493
😀
I couldn't stop myself from thinking that I can buy a lot of square G-Shock with that amount of money.
(Omega,Steinhart,Hamilton) (Chrono,Diver,Field)
OK - I will build this from my recent purchases with a $10k budget...
Doxa SUB 300 T-Graph Sharkhunter $3,700
Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver GMT Bezel $1,900
(still waiting for this one - hopefully in November)
Longines Ultra-Chron $3,700
Baltic MR01 $600
(won't see this one until June 2023)
So we have a hardcore diving chronograph, a GMT chronograph, an ultra high beat diver, and a slim elegant dress watch all for under $10K with $100 to spare for a G-shock.
I really love the idea of doing a 3 watch collection . I bit the bullet and ordered a speedy 57 blue on bracelet for my 40th bday next yr and recently found a steal the GShock gwm5610 for 79 cad On Amazon.ca
With regards to diver and gmt … I’m undecided. Maybe I’m a bit out there….I really like the Sinn U50 for a diver because it doesn’t look like a Rolex but it has a pretty thin case and looks really rugged and tool like as a true diver should. As for gmt I love the gmt master 2 Batman but if we try to not bankrupt ourselves … I really quite like the Longines Zulu time….however I can’t decide which colorway I would go with.
A speedy , Sinn u50 and a Longines Zulu time . What do you guys think? (I know with the 57 I’m over budget but …. Turning 40 treating myself to my first luxury watch :) )
This video on Youtube led me to WatchCrunch. I have actually started building my 3+1 collection and here's mine so far (from left to right)
My list reads the following:
+1 - Casio G-SHOCK GBD-200UU-1ER ($180)
Total - $10,910 (About $1000 over budget)
I agree with two of Max's picks; for others, I am evidently a Sinn fanboy.
