I agree with the above. I have a Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic. The included strap was very poor. Like you, i thought it might break in over time. It didn’t. I have replaced with a far more comfortable strap. I read one review where the reviewer questioned whether the Hamilton strap was even leather!

That’s really interesting. Actually, on my Hamilton, the strap doesn’t say genuine leather it says Hamilton, and then it has a serial number, but that’s it. Thank you for your feedback, after your thought, and consideration, I think I’ve decided to send this back and return it for a refund.
Thank you to everybody who added to this question! After careful consideration, and some of your feedback, I have decided to return the watch. I’m a little disappointed because I was really looking forward to having a Hamilton, but I think I’ll have to wait for another model of watch, to be honest, I’m not the type to go out and buy a bunch of different watch straps, in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever changed out a strap, not to say that I would never do it, but I haven’t done so thus far.
Sure, it’s disappointing, but it’s on par with other sun $1000 Swiss watch straps.
Good to know….when I bought my Coach watch, made by the Movado group, the leather strap was unbelievably comfortable and soft. I think I was just expecting more.
I don't have that model, but I am 99.9% sure any leather strap will break-in over time.
That said, a new strap isn't very expensive if you're not in love with that one.
I don’t think Hamilton straps are all that good. I can’t think of a single Hamilton that I left on the factory strap.
This sounds like a great time to research some new straps while you try to break in this one to your liking.

It will break in. It will never be a great strap though.
I’ve got a Jazzmaster and the strap was pretty stiff at first but once it breaks in you’ll be ok.
They should use the straps from the American Classic line. Those things are beautifully soft from day 1.

Thank you for your feedback, kind of disappointing for Hamilton
