Casio G- Shock G-Steel Review

This is the first G-Shock that I’ve ever owned. I’ve had different Casio watches since I was a kid but I always considered G-Shock as something very tough and inelegant that would like right if you’re doing extreme sports but not much else, and it’s only recently that I’ve felt like I could afford a collection of watches so wanted watches that could work in multiple setting. Man was I wrong.
I walked into my local watch store looking for a nice weekend watch that could handle the beating a parent of young kids could give it but looked good enough that I could wear it at work (I’m a construction project manager so no need for a dress watch); I looked at Tissot, Seiko etc. and then this watch caught my eye in the G-Shock case. It looked great and was much more discrete than I had expected from a hard wearing G-Shock. It looks good on the wrist, see the photo below, it has that toughness of a g-shock, and has so many features I couldn’t put them on my Watchee app. The bluetooth feature is great as it means you’ll never need to set the time. This feature does have it’s downsides as if you want to set a timer or one of the five alarms you need to connect the watch to your phone set the time, and it’s probably easier to just do that with your phone.

It can also be hard to read the dial in the wrong light and the lume is not great. However, I can’t recommend this watch enough it’s definitely worth checking out.

  • Never need to set the time with the bluetooth feature
  • Looks good
  • G-Shock toughness
  • Can use your watch to find your phone
  • Bluetooth feature makes the alarm and timer a bit time consuming to use making it easier to use your phone
  • Shortcuts can take a while to learn
  • Lume isn’t great although the backlight works well

Thank you for the review 👍

Looks like a big guy. Is it comfortable on the wrist?

It works fine for me. It’s heavy but you expect that I feel it adds to the indestuctible feeling. 😉

Thanks for the interest.

That is very nice! I'm a G shock owner most of my life. Its a watch that will last long time and can take a beat down with out a worry.

Agree completely and with the solar power I’ll never need to open the case. I’ve got 3 G-Shocks they’re great.

Great Review I have been thinking of getting a GShock Steel for my collection though  I think I am just going to spend a little bit extra money and get me one from the MTG collection instead however the information you provided is awesome and since my lady collects GShocks she may end up with one instead lol

I love the look of the MTGs just not sure about the price. I can definitely recommend this one as a cheaper alternative.
