Watches and photography go hand in hand (see what I did there?)

I've loved watches for as long as I can remember, but photography is new to me.  My daughter took a few classes in high school, but left her Canon T6 behind when she went to college.  Not that long ago I dusted it off, bought a few 'how to' books, and started taking photos.  Now I find myself with a dedicated watch IG, and just bought my first prime lense (nifty fifty).

What cameras and lenses are you rocking for watch photography?  Has anyone gotten into photography purely for watches, or are you taking pictures of other things as well?

This is my most recent pic titled "Hope it's 5 o'clock where you are."

First, fantastic pic! Little peek-a-boo action going on.

I came to watch photography as a means learning how to better use my camera but soon found I was genuinely interested in the art and design behind it all (plus obviously watches make for great models, 😂). I too created a dedicated IG primarily just to spare friends and family from my growing addiction. In fact I took it one step further, after being inspired by folks like Peter McKinnon, I wanted to test the limited of camera by creating dynamic videos and started a YT channel… but soon realized that while I had fun creating videos, the sheer amount of time to film/edit them was getting overwhelming. And in general, enjoyed being in Lightroom more than Premiere.

I shoot with an A7SIII using 35mm prime, and occasionally a crappier APS-C kit lens when I need to change up to a different focal length. I’ve been making do with extension tubes when I need more macro shots but hoping to snag the 90mm prime sometime soon. I need less expensive hobbies. 😂

Both expensive hobbies indeed!  And wow!  That’s a bad a$$ camera!

Just gave you a follow on IG. I’ve seen your YT channel before - watched your SARB033 vid maybe a month ago?  Well done … would love to see more!

Cheers my friend!

In my case, I actually got into simple phone photography earlier than my watch addiction. And then the 2 just sort of meshed together. So now there's an IG account exclusively for my watch hobby 😂 Of course, photo sample should be included.

I usually don't drink Gin, but do you recommend The Botanist?

I am a garbage photographer, but I’d really like to get better at it!

Great capture. I did get into photography to support my watch hobby (and YouTube channel).

I really find macro photography interesting and have a 28mm Canon macro lens to go with my Canon M50. Watch dial and movements are really captivating up close!

I might be transitioning over to the Sony ecosystem, with a Sony 6400. If anyone has any good lens recommendations for Sony E-mount, please let me know.

Cheers.

I would indeed!  One could get lost in scotch or bourbon…but gin is becoming very interesting to me. A bartender made me a martini with this gin, and I had to have it. I guess it is time to delve into the world of gin . Would definitely recommend this one!

Well, that's about all the convincing I need. Going to have to try it out now!

Thank you!  Did you just post a low-light pic of the Grand Seiko?  Amazing!

Would love to know how the Sony transition goes!

Yeah, I used my Canon M50 with a 22mm lens, wide open at F2.0 for the shot :)
