Great video!

As always, loved the review. I often wonder why GS doesn't make a Snowflake II. My design would be bracelet finish like the Evolution 9 watches have = a little let bling and/or not as much high polish and brush contrast. Maybe some Lumibrite? Of course redesign a clasp for sizing AND find a way to use screws versus pins in the bracelet. Even Rolex saw the Value of the Explorer II. Would be a cool watch

I thought it was great that you and Watchfinder put out a Grand Seiko video within a couple of hours of each other. I don't have one, but I would love to get one. I wouldn't have the same problem you do, since I am the least athletic person on the planet. 😂

·

I JUST put up a poll discussing this exact thing. What makes GS special - understated super watch.

·

GS used to be genuinely special. When I bought my Hi-Beat there were only two watchmakers who made them. There were a handful of models from which to choose. Volumes were extremely low. Now it's just another commoditised luxury brand. And you can really see the difference - zaratsu now not so zaratsu! Such a shame. But plenty of new special low-volume watches out there for the discerning.

GS is in my 3 favorite watch brands (Vacheron, Zenith, GS). They are innovative, the dials are the best, their movement is amazing, their finishing is 2nd to none. They should be at the level of trinity, but they have seiko in the name. I believe that will change in the coming years. Excited for what they do at W&W. The koda (I think that's the name) last year was insane.

Nup, finish was second to none 10 years ago. Their standards have dropped (making way more watches now) and other brands have improved their quality.

·

The superlative ‘grand’ seems to lose a drop of potency every year we tick into the future. It’s lovely to see a watch brand that still keeps a vial of grand concentrate in its design cupboard.

Would it be possible to let us know how the standards have dropped? I just came back from a GS9 event and i thoroughly believe their standards have actually gone up after seeing a multitude of watches under loupe.

The 'flat' zaratsu surfaces aren't quite as flat any more. It's perceptible all over but the easiest place to see it is the polished bracelet links.

Ahh, you mean the polish on flat surfaces no longer reflect mirror qualities? I havent noticed that. I’ll go have a look when i get the chance.

·

They're just not as geometrically perfect as I remember them being in the past. You can see how the reflection distorts at the edges of each piece. You couldn't see that back in the day. It was their party piece. It's not surprising. How many Hi-Beats did GS make in 2008? How many did they make in 2023? They're still great watches, don't get me wrong, but they're just another great watch brand now.

This is very interesting to me Jason. I handled new watches every week from all brands affordable to luxury . I have not handled a better finished watch than a grand Seiko. Now 10 years ago they were on my radar at all as I was just starting this watch obsession. But for me in 2023, they are still leaders in fit and finish with the price you pay .

Not even sure what that comment even means????? The fact that you can’t buy a 20 year old GS makes your point irrelevant doesn’t it? Mine is more relevant as I show watches that can be bought brand new now and compare them to other luxury watches you can buy now??! I swear Frosties used to taste better but you can’t buy them now so compared to every other brand Kellogg’s still win.

Good reply to a passive aggressive self opinionated poster.👊

"Your not a reliable source of information (no offence)". Yeah sure no offence intended, pillock. Just sayin 😆

I’m here to learn, that’s why I love doing the channel. I dislike talking to negative people with certain agendas they may have been burned by in the past. Always learning , always exploring ! I must remember not to speak to you again!

Did you mean that vile thing or did you misspell 'vial' for vile?

Because that is genuinely funny. I can just imagine Rolex dropping a drop of their vile sekrit sauce on every watch they make for that special something.

I did misspell it. Damn me!

I love my GS White Birch Spring Drive. Truly mesmerising piece in every way. From the dial to finishing, to the ridiculously accurate movement and the sweeping second hand.

I love GS I can't afford one.

·

I’m only here to add that “with all due respect” is one of those phrases that means f•ck all. Why even say it if the respect due is none whatsoever?

·

I owned that watch for awhile. The dial is gorgeous, but after awhile, the wearing experience just got bland. Cant even explain it, but when I sold it, I didn't have even the slightest regret.

·

Had a Snowflake but sold it a few years back. If it was slightly smaller, like 39mm, thinner, and had a nicer clasp especially, I'd buy it again. The dial and dial furniture are incredible, truly miles above anything remotely close to the price range, but those other things bothered me enough to let it go.

For real. If that statement is included, respect most assuredly is not.

Top guy and a phenomenal watch!!!!!!!

·

You know as I look on youtube I see there was a wannabe watch youtuber named jason recliner. Looks like he did a total of four youtube watch reviews, none got more than high 20s in views. There was also a 'musician' with the same name, could be there same guy. 'Music' was pretty, meh?

Now, on here there is a jason recliner who also fancies himself a watch reviewer. For some reason, his stuff doesn't quite resonate. Based on this thread, hard to put on a finger on it as to why...

·

Great video, this is a watch that has been on my list since it appeared. I just love it! Thanks for the great overview.

·

I can not get into this guy's videos. I mean I know Nico clearly knows his watches but he comes off like a spastic child in all the other ways. I'm sure he's a great guy, a saint, whatever, I just can't seem to enjoy his videos much, but i do respect his knowledge.

·

Fantastic video, definitely want to add a GS to my collection...eventually 😀
