Vintage Grand Seiko Hi-beat after a service

Got myself a 4520-8000 recently and first thing I did was have it serviced. Above is the timegrapher reading.

After 50+ years it looks pretty decent eh

Just abit concerned bout 200 amplitude.

Anyone know what’s up?

Quite normal for vintage watches to have low amplitude.

Shake it to wake up the squirrels running it. Could be tired balance spring. All springs lose strength bending over time.

The vintage King and GS Seikos are iron men!

What’s considered too low that it might need a pets replacement though?

The movement in my 4502-7000 runs at about 240 degrees, it was serviced about 4 years ago. The lift angle is set incorrectly on the image shown, at 51 degrees. The 45 series movements have a lift angle of 56.5 degrees, which will effect the amplitude negatively. It may actually be around 15 to 20 degrees higher than the timegrapher shows. A lot of vintage Seiko have an amplitude that is relatively low (typically 230 to to 250 degrees) compared to Swiss movements that usually run at around 270 to 300 degrees, although it does depend on the amount of wear & whether the main spring has been replaced for example.

So I can extrapolate that at 56.5 my amplitude “could” be closer to 215/220. That sounds abit more assuring

Working backwards seems the amplitude would be 220 at lift angle 56.5 thanks!
