My current travel watch for potentially insecure destinations

Gives you that cosmopolitan flair, as well as the useful GMT functionality - but in case I got mugged, the joke's on the robber. 😁 #paganiprank

What are you guys traveling with in case the destination might feature dubious alleys that might need to be crossed?

I can see your point, but even a Pagani is not worth getting mugged for!

When I was 15 (almost 25 years ago), my pride and joy was a very genuine looking (but fake) G Shock I picked up on holiday. Had it about a month before an older teen pulled a knife on me for it. Obviously I gave it up without a fight, having that same 'the joke's on you fuck head' thought.

·

Also - I think the Pagani looks smart!

·

Great choice. Leave the good stuff home.

·

I would stick to a casio digital...why tempt getting mugged in the first place?

Maybe there is something to it: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/naples-thieves-return-watch/index.html  - "Italian thieves return watch to victim after realizing it was fake"

What I also found striking is that the tourists stayed to finish their drinks, after somebody put a gun to the head of one of them.

I think you're better off not wearing something that attracts the wrong sort of attention in the first place. A nice, but not flashy watch is what I would do/have done when travelling.

Nice, but not flashy is dependant on where you are going as well. In Dubai nobody is going to notice your BB36 and a wallet with a few hundred dollars worth of dirham, in many parts of Mumbai the BB36 and the couple hundred dollars worth of Rupees is going to attract a lot of attention.

Sad this is an issue

That would not be my choice. Not at all. It looks too much like it‘s much more valuable and easily recognizable inspiration.

@JethroTull @cageyjames @KristianG @MissingMilo Valid points. Even though I don't own a Casio or Timex, I was seriously considering my low-key Type A Flieger for the trip. Maybe I enjoy that 10% extra risk.

However, I made it home safely today without getting mugged after a great week on Sardinia. 🍻

What is worse than risking your life for a Rolex? Risking your life for a cheap knock-off.

I even went one step further before my last trip: Usually my travel watch was an Alpina Alpiner 4, which I bought used for 450$. Do thieves know it was only 450$? No. Does it look nice and shiny enough, that they might get the impression it costs more? Definitely. Do I want to risk anything for this amount of money? Definitely not.

So I bought myself a classic Resin G-Shock.

I might actually feel safe on the streets of mexico now that I know that

·

(imagines himself void of both legs and wallet.  just a shirt and my arm with a shitty casio on it.  also family kidnapped.)

And I paid for this vacation!
