What is your favourite “unpopular” watch?

What is the watch in you collection that you love, but the wider community might turn their nose up to?

Mine is my Maurice Lacroix Grand Guichet from the 90s. My first “good watch” - it’s meaningful to me, and in my eyes at least - remains quite beautiful.

I look forward to hearing and seeing yours.

For me I think it's the Tissot Le Locle.

Not unpopular as it is but it has an old image and I was in my mid twentyies. But I like dress watch !

I have an Emporio Armani Meccanico. A gift from my wife.

Every time I try on this Omega Constellation which I love, my watch pals tell me to take it off and move on!

·

When the new Superoceans first came out, it was almost universally panned and still gets lots of hate.  I love 'em.

Really?  the modern constellation is one of the integrated bracelet sports watches with an actual personality outside of Royal Oak or Nautilus.

I don't really understand the dislike.

·

Us watch snobs don't like the new King Seiko's because they have "basic" Seiko movements in 'em.  I couldn't care less about the movement, so long as it's reliable.  Love this watch!

Oh, and two answers.

the one I own - Cartier Roadster Chronograph XL

Image

Super large footprint with a poky crown, not interesting off the shelf movement, expensive to service, very overpriced at retail.  It was once very popular but is now uniquely off trend.  It is a forever watch for me.

The one I don't - Hublot Classic Fusion

Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium] ...I heard this sub likes hublot now : r/Watches

Because I am super amused by the hate.

I have I think 4 watches that the dislike isn't necessarily about the watches themselves, but rather the concept or category of the watch.

My Forsining "Tattoo" (my name) for gaudy & over the top.

My wooden watch, cuz wood.

My M.Johanssen because of it's 54mm case size.

And the 'Citizen' franken, because it's a franken.

I get more than a fair share of snobbery when I wear my Aquaracer. It’s solid piece and just keeps going. Got it back from a factory service a few months ago and haven’t worn it since.

Don’t let the snobbery stop you wearing it - if you love it - enjoy it!

it’s a very good looking watch

This Chinese Forsinining almost a yr old been drop 2x. I'm going to use it more often and put it through the test of times and see.

No doubt the Esq quartz chrono my wife gave me like 25 years ago. It was my daily for like 10 years before I lost interest in watches for another ten years. Had it overhauled two years ago. I wear it and enjoy it from time to time, especially on special occasions. It will always be the watch that has been through the most with me and has the most meaning for me.

I remember having one of those!! very popular in Australia and NZ!

Yes, I think Australia is where RipCurl is based? Good to see you recognize it!

·

This is one of them.  I find it they either love it or hate it.  It's a bold wath.

Image

And it looks like my Made Worn that I just bought is getting the same comments

Image
·

Do you think that is because of the style, or the brand? I think it’s cool you have both!

Nice!! Thanks for sharing! Which is your favourite?

Thank you for creating this topic!

I'll have to say my favourite's the Cartier, it may not be very "robust" but I fall in love with it everytime I look at it.

The Citizen is also growing on me: it's superbly made, and I'm finding the polished edges just a marvel to look at.

I'll honestly say I'm falling a bit out of love with the Hamilton. It's beautiful, but it just doesn't set my heart fluttering like the others.

·

The Cartier will alway be “a Cartier” - regardless of how fashions change, it will always be a bit of quality kit and be of interest. I think often there is a period (probably about a decade after something was really desirable and last another decade) when people just don’t appreciate what’s there. That’s the time to pick them up! Those Ebels noted above are in that category too.

Thanks for engaging in this topic!

I don't know why anyone would dislike that, it's lovely. I love the 39mm Aikon automatic

Thank you - it Is a combination of style and brand. There is as much hate for Maurice Lacroix as there is for TAG Heuer. In both cases - I think it is unwarranted. We are a fussy lot I guess!

It’s a shame isn’t it? The brand has real heritage. Got some pics?

They are not hated so much now though are they?

I know some have changed their mind after actually holding them in their hands, but still...a lot of hate on these.

·

Nothing to turn your nose up at there. Beautiful watch and a trusted brand. Looks like a win/win to me.

·

I’ve got a few cheap watches in my collection that I’m sure people would turn their noses up at, but I still like them and couldn’t really care less what people think about them. Am having a budget watch weekend actually and running with this today. $200 quartz, but I love the colours and it’s comfy to wear.

I hear you! I've got a Maurice Lacroix Les Classiques Quartz Chronograph which the wider community (which is really just here for me!) might not be into. Originally bought for my son, but he didn't want it (he's a cheap G-Shock DW6902 man, so kudos to him I guess 😀). Might post a pic of it tomorrow.
