A week on the wrist - Nomos Orion Neomatik Silvercut

I’m no stranger to Nomos, this is the fourth one I’ve owned. It came up for sale from a fellow watch collector, barely used, so I just went for it.

I’ve been looking for my next Nomos, but wanted something different from my Club and Lambda. The fact that it is automatic and Orion Silvercut with it’s unique dial was a good bit different from the others.

Speaking of the dial, it has fine lines brushed into the dial. These are not very deep and require a lupe to see, but it gives nice light play. The hands are nicely finish and the pop of red from the small seconds is a nice touch. However, the readability sufferers with the polished hands over the silver dial.

Now I’ve had this watch for a week and unlike me I haven’t worn another watch. I didn’t feel like I needed to; am I settling? Probably not, but it’s a nice experiment. I feel like this is partly due to the perfect size (for me). It’s rather thin for an automatic and hugs the wrist nicely.

The strap that it comes on is a very nice black, shell cordovan leather, but I want a more casual and have been wearing it on a canvas strap from Delugs. Luckily I had this 19mm laying around. The odd lug width limit the strap options somewhat, but if you hunt around they can be found. Another note on the lugs is that they’re wider at the case than at the springbars. This makes it look like there is some space between the strap and lugs. I would rather avoid this, but it’s a minor complaint.

Unfortunately, the hands are slightly misaligned so this one will go back to Glashutte. Also, I don’t have experience with this movement, but the rotor is rather loud, and this also might need adjustment. These are hopefully only isolated events.

Furthermore, the movement have been running around 10 seconds fast this week. This could be improved, but I see it as fair.

Finally, the week with the Orion has been really enjoyable and I think it’s going to be a mainstay in my collection.

Beautiful piece. What kind of misaligned have you noticed?

One of my concerns with this brand is te reliability and technical support. Other than that, their watches are beautiful and collectable.

I can imagine that this could be part of a one watch collection if you‘re not the sporty/outdoorsy type. Very nice!

Thanks.
The minute hand is about five past the hour when the hour hand is on the hour. Hopefully, that made sense.

Yes, I’ve had to sent back my lambda to Nomos, but they’re service have been excellent.

This one and a sportier watch would be a killer two watch collection.

That sucks, but I am sure Nomos will take good care of your watch. It is a really stunning piece! As you said the silver dial plays with light so well, and I just love the simple design that Nomos is famous for

Well put 🥹

IME with the Neomatik movement, they do have louder rotor noise than most.  On my Ahoi Neomatik, its actually quieter than the other two I had owned and I think that might be somethign to do with the beefier case.
