Wow. IX&DAO Engineer(1st impressions)

I sold my Swiss watch to get this Chinese homage watch... and it was absolutely the right move.

This thing is incredible. This is by far the best finished watch I own. My most expensive watch I own is around $600, so I can't speak on the quality of the watches on the higher end, but I can absolutely say this IX&DAO will be comparable.

Image

The transitions between brushed and polished facets are crisp, clean and have the perfect amount of light-play.

Image

The Tissot PRX is known for it's amazing case and bracelet finishing, but I have to say this IX&Dao gives the PRX a run for it's money.

Image

On to the dial. The Mother Of Pearl is awesome. The pearlescence is incredibly dynamic and changes it's appearance dependant on angle and lighting conditions.

Image

It's flashy, but not overstated. I can see this working with a button-up just as much as a football jersey.

This version of the Engineer does come with a half-link to insure a good fit. Luck for me I didn't have to use it. This is my first PT5000 movement. The high beat sweep is nice, but I won't comment on it's performance until I wear it a bit more.

Image

The lume is great as well. Way better than the PRX.

So far, I can't be happier in my decision to swap my quartz PRX for this high beat auto IX&DAO.

Everyone has their own opinions of homage watches, and I can see both sides having valid points.

To me, it's simple...

I love watches, and this is an awesome watch.

Thanks for stopping by.

Nice! I agree, have mine quite a while now and its ridiculous value for money. And I like this mop dial way better than the weird stamped flag motive on the original. 馃槑

(No clue what's going on with the WC server, imagine the same watch as yours displayed above. Or check out my wruw)

Very nice Kevin 馃敟.

beautiful watch! what鈥檚 it an homage of?

The IWC Ingenieur.

This is awesome! I have mine on the way as we speak.. It is finally past US customs.. Can鈥檛 wait till it gets here!

I think you posted this other day and I've been obsessed every since. I'm a sucker for textured, natural or stone dials - so a dark mother of pearl is amazing. I will certainly be trying to get one! How's the adjustment with the butterfly clasp?

It delivers way beyond my expectations. You will love it. On my 6.5in wrist it fits great. Lots of presence, but it works.

The clasp is amazing. It's machined very well. And the watch came with a half-link to make tight adjustments. This brand delivered a winner here.

Ah the half link is good! Great thanks for replying 馃憤

Do you have a link to the store?

This is a nice upgrade definitely the new watch looks more premium 馃挴

I also own the same watch and your description is spot on. It really feels like a 13,000 dollar watch!

I'm just waiting for mine to clear customs!

Three movements offered. Which one? The ETA bumps the price up, but a wise choice long term? I wouldn't know hence the question.

I would go for the Sellita (SW200), cheaper than the ETA but still Swiss. It's what most non-Swatch Group makers are using if they want to put a Swiss movement in their watches.

Just FYI, the PT5000 movement is similar to the popular ETA 2824-2 movement as well as the Sellita SW200 (Minus a jewel). This is because just like the Sellita this is a clone of the ETA 2824 design.

Like Brad said, if you want a Swiss movement go with the SW200, but all of them are similar in specifications.

I soldi my 40 mm PRX because I have a 6.5 inch wrist and for this reason I will buy a 35 mm PRX. I like your watch but It looks like It wears like a 40 mm PRX

The real winner on this thing? The fingerprint/scratch resistant coating on this thing.

Its crazy that IWC sells this for over $10k. This is a MUCH better value and offers the same wearing experience.

So you owned the IWC version?

hell to the no, and never will

My friend, I just got it in the mail today鈥. This watch extremely exceeds my expectations. I went to an AD to try the IWC on.. It鈥檚 unbelievable how the finishing is exactly the same. Love the black MOP dial. Coolest dial I鈥檝e ever laid eyes on. In fact, it鈥檚 better than IWC鈥檚 since they don鈥檛 have a MOP option. Put them next to each other, I鈥檇 choose this one easily because it just looks better to me. Wow. Just wow. Check out both in the photos. Different lighting but easy to tell that its the same.

So then how is better value if you can鈥檛 compare to the original? Opinons are not based in reality. 馃槀 Price alone is not an indicator of value. Value is a very very subjective term. Just my opinion. 馃槀

Because paying $10k for a watch made out of steel is....ridiculous on so many levels. There is nothing about that watch that justifies its price, ergo no way in bloody hell it could be a better value than the SAME watch design wise, with HALF LINKS (something the IWC does NOT offer), steel hardening coating, and a SWISS movement...for under $400.

But by all means, spend your own money the way you see fit. But there is objectively no way you can possibly say, with a straight face, that a watch made out of the same steel a $100 Seiko watch, is "worth" $3k, let alone $10k.

You do you, my guy

Nice! I just read that IX&DAO are discontinuing this model as well. Whenever they run out, they are done... with the Engineer.

I get why IWC sued them, but also, the market has to adjust. This MOP dial if IWC would be $12,000-$15,000. There's a reason luxury brand sales are at record lows.

You鈥檙e spot on with this. The market should adjust. And yeah, I get it, too. It鈥檚 definitely something that can hurt their sales. But it鈥檚 also somewhat comical, because if you have to lawyer up for a homage, there鈥檚 something wrong IMO. There are so many homages of other brands, but those brands don鈥檛 worry, because they know it鈥檚 not going to put a dent in their sales. But I鈥檓 glad I got one before they are discountiued. It鈥檚 beautiful and I love it and will always remain. One of my greatest finds. And that MOP dial is insanely awesome.

Diving_Into_Watches

Why would I try when you have you convinced yourself otherwise. 馃槀

Why would you try what? I didnt suggest trying anything, other than do what you want or feel you need to do. If you want to spend $10k on a steel watch, go on ahead thats your decision not mine. But that price is precious metal territory IMHO. If im spending over $10k, that watch better be made of gold or at least gold filled. You can buy 316L SS in bulk, for $2k a metric TON. Yet you somehow think spending $10K for 150gr is "value"?

lol BRUH..DO YOU
