What’s a watch you want but will probably never get?

We’ve all heard of grail watches or exit watches (haha yeah right), but how about watches you love, could see yourself owning, but will probably never get?

For me, it’s the Zenith El Primero or any variation of it. It’s a beautiful watch and has a spot in history as the first self-winding chronograph announced (in the western world). Zenith is a great brand and I love the story of the watchmaker saving the movement designs when he was ordered to destroy them during the Quartz Crisis.

I would love to own one, but I already have an Omega Speedmaster Professional in my Chronograph slot. I wouldn’t be able to justify the purchase and can’t imagine this watch getting adequate wrist time.

Curious to hear which beautiful watches the Watch Crunch Community just won’t buy!

Moomintroll finds its way into the Sarpaneva x Moomin limited editions

Wife made fun of me, and asked if I were still 6 years-old when I showed this to her.

Absolutely amazing looking watch...  but, can't justify buying a watch just because I think the date window looks cool.

·

I already cited this in another thread, but the 5127 is my grail, particularly the white gold model 5127G.

Image

I can't justify the cost though.

·

Hamilton Frogman.

I told myself I'd buy only one watch from a conglomerate as a restriction, and I used up the Swatch slot with another Hamilton 😂

·

This might sound odd to some on here but, I have admired the Speedmaster since I got serious into watches back in the early '90's and even though I technically can "afford" one, I just can't bring myself to spend even the $2k'ish for a good used Reduced.

I just can't seem to spend that much and from time to time when I do think I could, I start to think I would never wear it because I spent so much...

Frustrating...maybe one day, who knows.

For me, I think it might be the Lange 1815.

It's one of my favorite watch designs. I think it's beautiful and possibly even flawless. I love it.

But I've learned that I just don't like to wear leather. And there's no way I'm putting one of these puppies on a canvas or NATO strap!

So knowing that I would probably never wear it, it remains simply a daydream.

A Rolex GMT just like Magnum P.I.!

The new Rolex OP 31mm Pink dial for my wife. AD knows I would like one (that's placing an order with a Rolex AD) but chances of getting it are Slim and None and Slim just walked out the door. Not paying 18K on the gray market .

For me, CALATRAVA 6119R

I’m right there with you. I was really considering one a few years back. They just are too much for me to justify, but I can still admire from afar.

What a watch!!!

Any Richard Mille watch. Only so I can flip it and get something decent 😁

Don't forget the new, now recently fired, Magnum!

Any ALS. I love all their pieces. But even their lowest end Saxonia Thin is way beyond my capacity to acquire. I guess I just have to admire them in pictures coz even if for some twist of luck manage to amass enough to buy one, I probably could not convince myself to spend that much for a timepiece. 😒

Ressence Type 3 for me. Everything about it is unreal.

I would like a chain fusee movement watch but the four that I know of are all extremely pricy. I can probably write off the A. Lange & Sohne.  Not only is the price high but it has no opening on either the dial or the back to display that rare movement.  the remaining watches are Breguet Tradition Fusée Tourbillon Reference 7047, Zenith Academy Georges Favre-Jacot and Romain Gauthier Logical One. The Zenith is least expensive at about $85,000.00.

That’s hilarious. Which Hamilton deserved the slot?

My grail watch is the ALS Saxonia Thin Copper Blue. It is stunning!

Pray tell, what is that watch for 6 year olds? I think I missed a stage of emotional development cuz that’s a great watch

Great pick. I wanted to say I can’t justify it for the ETA movement and would wait for something with a higher power reserve but who am I kidding that watch is over 40k

You know I wouldn‘t say there’s a watch I want and cannot get. I don’t want to sound snobby or anything but I like to tell that to myself. I think it is totally feasible to reach any watch somewhere in my life (I’m sub 30y/o) so there’s plenty of time left. Maybe one day I’ll sell my whole collection just to get that one watch I crave. Maybe I lose everything by tomorrow and will never be able to afford a single watch again. You’ll never know.. but telling myself I can get any watch I want (at some point) helps and motivates me.

I don’t think I phrased my question well given the responses on this thread, but I’m curious about the watches you want but won’t get, not the ones you can’t get. For example, you can’t see yourself pulling it off, can’t give it enough wrist time, your partner shamed you into returning it, etc.

Grand Seiko SLGA008.
Something about it just calls to me.

I get hungry every time I look at this watch. Looks like chocolate lol

This is the best looking Seamaster 300M in my humble opinion, but yeah can’t justify the premium for the Bond association

It's the Hamilton Spirit of Liberty Chronograph!

Also I can't do Seikos as well thanks to Orient 😂

Cartier santos plain and simple can’t justify a 3k + watch purchase sadly 😔

Speedy Pro. But also I saw this recently and can't take my eyes off it.

I think my disposable income would allow me to buy its seconds hand, probably not much more.

That is really cool! I’m excited to see this technology be copied by a cheaper brand. Dials that are subtle and change colour in the presence of light are awesome.
