Pick your final 3 watches from your current collection (lose the rest)

Let's play a fun thought game:

  1. Pick 3 watches to keep from your existing collection (not 4, not 5,but 3, and if you only own 3 watches or less then you automatically win the game, congrats)

  2. You have to lose the rest.

  3. These 3 watchea are the ones you'll keep til your final days

  4. These must actually exist in your current collection, watches you've sold/gotten rid of don't count

  5. No hypothetical future watches or watches you're 'on the list' waiting for, if they're not in your hand, they don't count.

For me it was a tough call because I wanted to leave one practical beater watch, but i figure if I'm going to keep these watches until the end then I might as well wear them like everyday beaters, so be it.

  1. Omega Speedmaster 57 - something with a fancy complication and Swiss

  2. Grand Seiko SBGJ261 GMT - I travel a lot and this one GMT can wear many hats as an everyday wear, travel companion and dressy piece, can also swim with it

  3. Grand Seiko SLGH009 Hi Beat - simple dress sports watch with a date complication, again can wear many hats (outdoor activities, dress, swimming, etc)

Looking forward to see what makes the cut in your collections 👍🏼

Monta Noble Opaline White. Clean, dressy but casual, but also great water resistance.

Halios Fairwind Grey. Just has that certain something and I can't stop looking at it. Markers shine beautifully, crystal gives a little funky distortion, and the lugs are long and lovely.

Gshock yellow square. Simple, robust, don't have to worry about scratching it and I love the uplifting playful color.

The gshock might compete with a chrono if I had one! Looking at the inexpensive and attractive ones from Roue at the moment.

My favorites at the moment.

#1 Hanhart

#2 King Seiko Purple Dial

#3 Omega Dynamic Chrono

1. A simple Omega dress watch from the 1970s (it was my Dad's so sentimental but it still looks great and wears well)

2. Seiko samurai save the ocean - lovely dial and hands (although would upgrade to sapphire crystal)

3. A G-shock - for sport and the digital stuff....

I was going to post but could only get it down to four, so I'm out.

Why do you guys love this mind torture ?! I don’t get it?!

Semi serious reply:

  1. Such mental exercises can be good for the mind and condition it to be more flexible when making difficult decisions

  2. It also has the benefit of forcing one to really think about the individual watches in collection and what is important about each and does one still value the pieces the same today as when one first bought it

Ohhh I get it! It’s just, I have been in this forum for some time now and these threads are redundant, I get it if your new and want to start something interesting, I suggest search first cuz we had some long discussion and interesting one on old threads… how about that for mental exercise…

I would feel guilty losing my SKX013 that truly got me into watch enthusiasm but these three would be my picks.

(L to R: Stowa Flieger Classic 36, Sinn U50, Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue).

·

Omega Speedmaster and Tudor Pelagos 39 for daily use, and Cartier Santos for those dressier occasions.

·

1) My Seiko SSB045 chronograph because it was a gift from my wife.

2) G-Shock GW-M5610U since it does everything, radio syncs, and never needs a battery.

3) Invicta 1953 because it was my first mechanical, keeps great time, and looks great… yes, I’m embarrassed to own an Invicta, but I don’t care.

If I absolutely had to choose..

My wife bought me this lovely moon phase in Paris:

Image

I find myself reaching for the Murph 38 almost every day:

Image

And the Flightmaster was the first head over heels watch for me (and is almost as tough as the G-Shocks it edged out of the competition):

Image

But that’s Dress/Everyday/Dive-Sport-Chrono-GMT (the Flightmaster is one helluva watch) in three.

My Iron Annie and Khaki Field Auto 38 would be so mad at me now if they knew.

·

I tried...my brain hurts. I think I would have to have a gun to my head, cocked.

Explorer, "President", Speedy

Thanks - it's also a split-second chronograph.

I had the chance in March when attending Watches & Wonders to visit the Minerva Atelier in Villeret. Had a tour of the entire facility, got to meet the watchmakers and other artisans involved in the making of the watches.

They also let us wander into their archive room. It was truly a fantastic experience.

If you ever get the chance to be in Switzerland and can make the trip to Villeret, it is well worth the effort.

do you have to be a big buyer to visit? I'd love to own one of them down the line but the best I got now is a minerva stopwatch haha

Your tastes are similar to mine, have all three of them.

Minerva stopwatches are really cool...you should post a photo.

No - I believe anyone can visit the manufacture. You may have to coordinate in advance when you plan to travel to Switzerland.

I met some lovely people from the Czech Republic at Watches & Wonders who are huge fans of Minerva, but don't have any yet in their collections. They were able to get a tour of the manufacture.

Here are some of the Minerva stopwatches I have in my collection...I love it when I can also get them in their original boxes...

1. SBGA483. To be able to put Snowflake, Spring Drive, 44GS Case a sentence, I feel it is one of my more Grand Seiko time piece in my collection.

It also one of the few snowflake in steel, and 40mm diameter.

Image

2. SLGA007, I think the watch speak for itself

Image

3. SBGH047, I been a long time fan of Iwate Dial Pattern, and this is one timepiece that I always go to because of how subtle the feel is and it my definition of GADA. This is also one of the last 2nd hi beat model before GS rebrand themselves in 2017.

Image

That SBGA483 is a great limited ed exclusive 👏🏼

This mind exercise hurts.. final answer:

Excellent choices! Love the Hanhart as well.

Stop watches definitely don't get the love. All the better for us as it keeps the prices low 😉

I stopped by Feldmar's for the first time in LA, and after I told them I'm into stopwatches, the guys there told me Feldmar used to be the official service center for Minerva. Here are some of their NOS pieces they have in the back.

Minerva 60min stopwatch (not the crazy zenith 1/100th of a second but timing the seconds in 0.## format)

Lemania 15min stopwatch

You are cruel 😀. I would keep

  1. My Grand Seiko SBGX063 Quartz

  2. My Rolex Datejust 16234 Roman Dial

  3. My Tag Heuer 2000 series Quartz watch (Yes, sentimental value watches have to be included!)

Keeping all colors as neutral as it can be!

At the end of the day the choice is almo easy :

-Timex S1 Giorgio Galli, I love its sporty case look with a dress touch on the dial and indices. I bought it as my gift to myself when I stopped smoking and I was wearing it when myaughter was born.

Image

-Farer Resolute, incredible dial and lume, very pleasant wrist presence in a 39/45mm size. Flat caseback that makes it sits well on the wrist, nice polishing on the case side. Gift from myife for the birth of our child.

Image
  1. Citizen PMD56 : Last one that entered the collection for my birthday in february. A fantastic beater/GADA, my first titanium watch and the perfect grab and go with its ecodrive movement and perpetual calendar. Once again, sentimental value as it was partly gifted by friendsd wifey.
