The Last Scuba Dude?

I ordered this from Vostok February 9. I guess I was lucky to get it when I did. It sure is beautiful but a bit hard to wear out now.

Quite a bit of discussion on r/vostok on Reddit when it comes to wearing a Vostok. I've come to the conclusion that although the tax goes to the Russian government, in the scheme of things it's not like you and I and the thousands of other people buying Vostoks outside of Russia are personally funding the war effort. At least some of that is going to schools and hospitals...I hope.

More importantly, by continuing to support the Vostok brand we are keeping several hundred people employed in the factory in Chistopol, food on their tables and a roof over their heads. Tatarstan is not the richest part of Russia, Stalin chose to move the watch factory there originally because it is in the middle of nowhere (and couldn't be exploded by the Germans), thus jobs are not easy to come by. Have a look at Street View and you'll see it is a pretty depressing (and even clichéd Soviet) part of the world.

Either way - what a beautiful example of what looks like a 420 case at first glance (I am not good at identifying case numbers), and I love that dial colour! I wasn't aware that they had a SCUBA dude in that silvery, brown colour. Looks cool!

Thank you. It's 120658.

Of course I ordered this before the invasion. It's one person who is to blame for that and having a Vostok doesn't directly benefit that monster. I agree that the people who make these don't deserve to lose their livelihoods but as Clint told us: Deserve's got nothing to do with it. They will be having a hard time for a while through no fault of their own though and that sucks.

I won't be flashing it around in public but I do enjoy it for what it is.

Ukraine sells them too. Buy one even if it never comes.

Like you I ordered from Meranom just as the invasion hit. My Komanderski arrived very swiftly surprisingly. I don't have an issue wearing it at all. Neither does anyone I know. We are not supporting Putin or his war by wearing an affordable Russian watch, rather supporting the hard working and no doubt poorly paid people in the watch factory.

I would argue we should continue to buy there despite the war to help the company survive and therefore those employed there?

So don't feel bad about wearing it it's just a watch!

Every choice we make is a vote for the kind of world we want. I feel bad for the average Russian. That is all. They have to decide whether to take the risks to change their situation or to continue. I will not support anything Russian until the monster is gone, preferably by "heart attack not of natural origins" as his former spy chief just went.

I wear fliegers, I have owned Mercedes and Volkswagen but not during WWII and during this atrocity being perpetrated on the Ukrainian people I'll not support Russia in any way. I stand with the innocent and against the bully aggressor.

I don't want anything in Russian to prosper until they start acting as a civilized nation. Just my opinion.

I do get your point and respect your opinion.

I'm not sure the Russian people will be willing or able to change the Putin regime. I'm glad I don't live there. I totally support the Ukraine and have Ukrainian friends. I'm continuing to rotate my vostok  but I your view is entirely sound and shared by many I know. Let's hope this debate becomes unnecessary at some point soon!

Well said.
