This is a perennial topic that I think I've previously avoided. I don't have an answer.
Would I want one pricey watch that I had to wear all the time, meaning mainly when it was unsuitable? Nope.
Would I take the single leading man watch over some runners-up if I got to have a daily beater or two as well? I'd say yes, but (surely there is a name for this) I fear I'd become accustomed to the luxo-object such that it was my new standard, and of course I'd want more like it. Why submit myself to that?

I really like this answer. It’s kinda makes me think about what I would do. Im still not sure
So the premise of this question is an expensive watch is "really nice" and "inexpensive" is not? I'm not sure I can go there. What even is expensive? Wouldn't every collector on this forum have a different definition Expensive? I can predict with near 100% certainly that everyone has a different definition of "nice". Just my thoughts and I'm always open to being convinced i'm wrong.

Yeah your right. I guess I should have worded it differently. I was more or less asking would you rather save your money for a while and buy one watch or in the same amount of time buy a few less expensive watches and have variety.
I went with B only because it'd be tough to pick one watch for everything. But the real answer is C: a few nice watches
I recently bought an Omega for slightly more than the two Seikos and one Hamilton that I was planning to buy. I am very happy with my decision, but I also have a couple other watches and plan to buy a few more nice watches.
I suppose that it depends on how you interpret the question... If "one expensive watch" is an Omega or a Rolex Explorer or something, and "a few less expensive watches" was a number of $250-1000 Seikos, PRXs and such, then I'd go with the one. But if "one expensive watch" was a Patek or Lange or something, and "a few less expensive watches" was a couple of Omegas, Rolexes, Longines, and so forth for each occasion, then my answer would certainly be a few less expensive watches.

I agree it’s very hard to narrow it down to just one watch.
2 or 3 pretty nice watches > 1 really nice watch
I have a few less expensive but really nice watches 😊
I built up slowly, have a range of watches but really only wear my expensive one now. Each to their own though.

you could use the 1 nice watch as capital to work your way up the ladder :)
