Seiko Laurel Alpinist - Alternatives

I’ve had my eye on this cream dial Laurel Alpinist for some time now. This one checks lots of boxes for me… right Now I can get this for around $550-600. My question is… what is out there in this price range that would be a worthy option? most the watches I’m interested in are in that $900-1600. Any thought on this Alpinist and is there reasons I shouldn’t get this one? Thanks, Pawley:)

The Alpinist is a great watch. I cannot wait to add one back to the collection and around $500 it is hard to beat. There are plenty of micro options, but are you looking for that specific cream dial look or a field watch? To me, if I am getting an Alpinist I am getting the traditional one, but that is personal preference. For whiter dial the SPB119:

Or the cream dial 123:

I like the nod to the very first Alpinist! I guess the one you posted is what most would call the Alpinist. id love to have this one… but not at that price.

Not for that price and not with a date.

That's a beautiful piece. I like this cream dial more than the darker dials I've seen. Of course, I lean towards the dressier, but either way, I'd say go for it 👍

Hard to beat at that price, maybe Hamilton Khaki?

It is a beautiful and elegant piece. Other options I can think of are Baby Alpinist and Tissot Gentlemen

·

awesome watch line the alpinists, only issue I would say Is the lack of contrast in the hands to the dial could make the hands a little harder to see. but as usual seiko renders never look like what they do in person

I have the Ginza Alpinist and probably my only gripe with it is the clasp—only two holes of micro adjustment and I can only wear it loose

·

Great watch for that price! Can't get better than that. They are very versatile, they look great on all kinds of different straps.

I own the green dial of this and using it so much, used it in pool and also in the sea... Before buying that i've looked over 20 watches and nothing is comparable on this price range. You'll love this watch. And luckily this version comes with a really great bracelet, since that original bracelet is around 150-200$. Go for it, you don't need to wait.

PS: I also owned the dark blue (jeans like) dial of it and sold it, reason was the not blue looking dial.

More PS: Lume is better than my Longines Spirit and MeisterSinger Metris. You're gonna love it.

I have this watch. I expected to love it. But I don't.

Without intention, I seem to have accumulated 6 Alpinist. This one gets the least time on wrist. I guess it's just too plain.

At the moment I'm wearing the tic-tac jdm SZSB021. Like many Seiko dials it's hard to catch the dial in a photo.
