New (2023) Seiko Astron GPS Solar

This is a beautiful traveller’s watch and is an update to my previously-mentioned Casio digital solar watch that I’ve had for over 25 years. This is also my first sub-dial watch that I’ve purchased for me. As with most Japanese watches of this intent, complexity is their strong suit. The titanium makes the watch deceptively light for the wearer. And because these darn watch-makers keep making the printed text of their manuals ever so small, I’m always looking to download the watch instructions to help. 😂 Thanks for stopping by.

This should last you for more than 25 years. Astron models are top of the line in Seiko quartz modules and have premium build quality.

I have looked at the Astrons for a long time, I think they are great but so expensive (for me anyway) That is one lovely watch. For me it would be a toss up between an Astron and a Casio Oceanus.

I hear you. And thank you for the compliment. I absolutely agree with you about the Casio Oceanus. You have a very good eye! Watches have really gone up in price over time. I’m fortunate to now be in place to be able to amass a very small collection I can wear with some regularity. It’s taken 30 years, though. It’s the one luxury I’ve allowed myself-some of my purchases have been new and some used, to save money.

I put a small amount away each week and have for years. Most of the time I will dip into the fund when I get the itch for watch I have lusted over for a while , but usually its on the affordable side. Once I saved for 5 years with no watch purchase, and was able to finally get a Rolex, that I almost never wear as its too expensive ! This watch obsession makes you do strange things.

I appreciate that feedback. This is my first Seiko watch, ever. Prior to this, I’ve had a couple of Casios.

This is not the most popular Seiko quartz you see often but the Astron models for the price are literally just buy and forget type of watches. The service interval for the module is 50 years plus its top of the line Seiko in terms of quality and finish closer to a Grand Seiko quartz model but with all the GPS and that super cool quartz module. Don't even have to set the time for most parts the module just does everything for you.
