Do you lend your watches out ?

I’ve been without this Explorer for about a year as I lent it to a friend who was traveling and wanted to experience an explorer 2. I had complete trust , and he obviously took great care of this watch as it still in mint condition. It’s a fun aspect of collecting for me - do you ever lend out your watches ?

I have a buddy that I swap watches with, but never for more than a few weeks. I actually have his polar exp II right now.

·

I would, only the Casio’s

😜

·

I would, but only up to a point. Something like a Rolex is too big a risk to a friendship in my view. If your friend, through no fault of their own, ruined it there might be hard feelings. Especially knowing that particular watch was important in some way, and the replacement cost would be well beyond the original price paid. That said, I think it's great that people share.

No!

I'd love to do a watch swap with my friends. Too bad, we have very different wrist sizes or they don't live in the same country! This is a great idea. I will seek out a swap 😀

·

No, never, it's mine!

No. That’s like loaning underwear.

·

Watches are something personal. I could try, or let someone try, my watch on, but I would never lend it and have never been asked to do so

·

No one wants my stuff

·

I’d never loan anything like that unless I was happy to say goodbye to it forever - like a Casio or something less than a hundred quid. All I can say is either your collection must be amazing if you’re happy to let that bad boy go for a year or you’re an amazing friend (maybe both).

·

I would, but only to a certain extend. For example, only watches with leather/fabric/resin straps - which rules out about 50% of my entire collection, including my most precious timepieces, as they all come with bracelets perfectly adjusted for my wrist. Also, in some way I have to agree with @gbelleh: It's almost like loaning underwear, since watches spend the majority of their lifes sitting on someone's (sweaty) wrist...

·

No way !!

But I do gift them quite a bit...

(2x Turtles, Khaki King, Spb147, Doxa, Cartier, Aqua Terra, Ladymatic all gifted to friends & family) but no way I'd lend any out 🤔

Nope. for me this idea is as bizarre sounding as suggesting that I loan my toothbrush to a friend.

·

I don't lend my watches, but my son and I do wear each other's watches occasionally, for a single day. A couple of days ago, my WRUW post was the Invicta Pro Diver 39105 (which I have dubbed "The Green Machine") which is actually my son's watch. The week before, I let him wear my Tissot Classic Dream to the junior prom. It's all good, because the watches always come back to the same house at the end of the day. 😎

·

Sure - depends on the watch.

·

Can I borrow it, I’ll give it back… promise😇

·

To my son only

·

I think it's really admirable you are so free to share your belongings!

·

Well as soon as I buy myself a watch, my girlfriend consider my watch as a Our watch…

Not no but hell no. Lol

·

I don’t know anyone in my social circle that is into watches so there’s that LOL.

·

Watchu talkin bout, Willis??😆

·

This was discussed before. This also needs to be a poll. More fun to see the data tabulated. :)

I loan my watch out. I don’t have watches that I cannot re-acquire if I needed to, and I wouldn't lend it to friends who wouldn’t buy another one if they were to break it. Even if they couldn’t buy a new one, not worth fighting over.

·

This could be a great poll.

·

What a bizarre notion.

·

Just loaned my 39mm Speedy to my wife. One of the gorgeous blue triple dates. It’s always been a bit small for me and I was planning on selling it but if she wants to “borrow” it for a while I guess I’ll allow it. 😂

No. That’s like loaning underwear.

😂😂😂

Only to my son - but they already belong to him: I got them only on loan until I pass away.
