A watch collector’s passion and addiction…

There are different collections, vintage, modern, general, genre, dress, sport, pocket, round, square, oval, mechanical, digital, complications, and brands.

I am a general watch collector with various watches from different categories. Chronographs make my heart skip a beat. What are your style and focus?

·

My style is that I'm most drawn to divers & chronos.

My focus is a varied collection showing the styles, technology & features watches have had in my lifetime. I do not have a final number in mind.

·

Chronographs are by far my favorite complication, to the point that when I wear a non chronograph watch I sometimes feel like I'm missing something. I've currently got a dozen in my collection, and am fighting the urge to add a JLC Polaris chrono to the mix.

I adore Divers, too, and at one point in my journey, I only wore divers. I guess we evolve as we get wiser. 😂

Like yours truly, we both need help! 😂

Some of my confessed bad attempts at poetry 😜

The Watch Collector
Trigger pulled, and it’s in the mail,
Excited, but no “One” is ever the grail,
Groomed, old friends are ready to sail.

A beautiful dial and a crown to wind,
A crystal and a movement to mind,
A shiny case and a bezel to grind.

A valiant soldier and a lengthy mile,
A beautiful soul with a brave smile,

This benevolent despot will never die!

I am the biggest horological dilettante you're ever going to meet.  A solid 90% of my watch buying decisions are "Oooh shiny" and then backwards justification on movements and complications.

I have remarkably little appreciation for universally beloved watches such as Submariners, Royal Oaks, G shocks, and the SKX.  I think I might be the only watch enthusiast who can't keep a dive watch in their collection.

If I had to categorize my collection, it's probably "Sports watches that you probably don't actually want to use as sports watches." Sporting watches or some such.

I'm an odd duck I suspect.

·

Current focus is trying to fill in the Diver, World Timer & Chronometer holes in the collection without declaring bankruptcy.  My style is to buy more watch than I can afford.

·

I'm more of a movement/brand guy. I like simple and elegant. Almost all of my watches are three handers with a date. Only two in the collection (out of 10) with a rotating bezel. If I get one model from a brand it's either going to be their flagship model or the one that speaks to me most and then it's rare if I ever get a second piece from that brand. That rule is broken if the price point is sub-$1,000. I have four Seiko's for instance, two 5's and two Prospex. But I would only ever get one Grand Seiko until I checked multiple other brands off my list (Omega, Breitling, Rolex, Doxa, JLC, Longines, etc.)

·

I've broken by collection down into smaller groups and I follow a new one in old one out policy to keep things under control.  The collection is heavily skewed toward tool/diver style with some dress and sport styles mixed in for variety.

Seiko - 30

Independent - 20

Miscellaneous - 15

Military - 10

Heuer/Tag Heuer - 10

Muhle Glashütte - 10

Citizen - 10

Russian - 10

This is that little voice whispering in your ear...do it. Awesome choice!

I'm a monogamist when it comes to personal relationships. However, I am polyamorous when it comes to my watches. I love them all - just don't have enough wrists to hold them. 😉

Somehow I always seem to find a new one to love...

Some are mail order brides that I have to wait months for to arrive from their home in Europe - been waiting months for this one which is supposed to arrive in July...

My problem is that I've listened to those little voices way too often 😀
