Batman or Batgirl….who cares

So I went to the AD that sold me an Explorer 124270 expecting to try on the Pepsi but I was shown the batman, lefty and sub. A little disappointed but nothing I can do about it.

Somehow batman wears way better on my wrist than the sub. I didn’t realize how 1mm drastically change the wear of the watch. It also highlighted how boring the submariner next to the GMTs.

One thing I learn today is that no matter how iconic the submariner is, its not for me. The GMTs has more character. It is not safe, it plays and risks whether one would like it or not. So I stuck with the Pepsi and confirmed my name on the waiting list.

Now the real question is will they offer it to me, The gentleman thought I didn’t know the game so I smiled and said to him, I know the game, I can wait. I stood up and said my goodbyes and told him „See you in 3 years“. He chuckled and said hopefully sooner than that.

·

See you in 10 years, gentlemen

Sometimes the not-so-subtle wink and a nod works to your advantage.

I'm not really a Rolex fan, but agree on the GMT vs Sub.

·

I felt exactly the same. I’m also waiting on a Pepsi. Let’s hope they call us soon!

Good luck man

It’s going to be a fun ride

How much does a literal number impact perception? Similar to a current AMG 63 only having a 4.0 engine, the Sub 41, just like the OP/DJ 41, are not actually 41mm. Heck, the last two are not even 40mm. Here are the actual measurements:

126610LN - 40.5mm, 12mm thick, and a L2L of 47.6mm

BLNR - 40mm, 12.2mm, and 48mm L2L

Now, taste aside as well as the fact not all wrists are shaped the same; I have a flat 6.5" wrist and I find the Sub wears more comfortably. Partially because of the bracelet with the glidelock, whereas my jubilee-based BLNR does not have one. I also never have to worry about setting the date on my Sub, whereas setting a date on a Rolex GMT is a total PITA, to the point I just wait until it gets closer to the date on the watch to wear it. Have spoken to many fellow nerds who say the same.

Both are awesome watches, but totally different experiences. You will find in most markets, for a Pepsi, you are looking at a significant spend history (six figures+) across multiple years. I hope you experience is different and I wish you luck on the journey.

Its one of those things that if it doesn’t happen won’t hurt my feelings specially my bank account. If it doesn’t happen I can keep lusting. It’s a win win for me. I‘m not sure if I follow your C63 analogy. Now if you say that to the W223 S Class then I would agree. An S Class is an S Class regardless of engine. Ride comfort and NVH are indistinguishable.

Apparently, you do because you took the time to comment. If you really don’t care then stop commenting in this post.

Thank you. It’s one of the perks of collecting.

I hear you in terms of the if.

Regarding Merc, current 63 models no longer have a 6.3 engine, just like a Rolex Sub 41 is not 41mm. At this point is just badging. Many see 41 and assume it is actually 41 when it is as close to 40 or in some cases under 40.

·

They never had 6.3L engine for a long time. I bought the old V8 6.2 liter and I don’t think you can compare it to the new electrified C63. What MB should do is stop calling it C63 as the nomenclature does not apply.

·

I waited two months for the Batman on jubilee and 9 months for the Pepsi on jubilee. Hopefully, your wait will be more in that range.

I have a 7 1/4 wrist, the Pepsi and Batman wear better than any Sub and I don't find it at all a problem setting the date on the GMTs. To each their own.

That is cool, it is all preference, but give me a glidelock most days, granted the jubilee is very comfortable.

Again, my issue with eth date is, if the date is the first and the watch last stopped on the 15th, you are talking about 30 full revolutions around the dial to set the date. I know some do not care about that, but to me, that is a pain and certainly cannot help in terms of wear and tear. Never mind the folks who refuse to go counterclockwise on the Rolex GMT for some reason, then we are talking up to 60 revolutions. I know it is a problem no one cares about, but when one wants to simply grab and go, it can make one opt to wear another piece instead.
