Choosing a watch to wear …

I’ve settled on a new pattern of wearing a watch for about a week. I’m wondering what others do to enjoy their collection.

I found that I was having to reset a watch everyday in order to wear it (unless I picked a quartz). That was a bit frustrating for me so I moved to a weekly pattern.

I rotate every day but I'm considering the 1 week challenge

Don't bother, it can't be done.

I usually pick a watch the night before and set it in the morning. But sometimes I choose unwisely, and have to get the box out to pick something more spontaneous. Sometimes a watch gets worn several days in a row. Usually not. I also often change watches during the day. Whatever keeps it interesting.

Enjoyment is key.

I usually change daily and sometime more than one.  I did no change November with my bb58 last year.  That was tough.

The ingredients are

  1. practical aspects of what's expected that day: water, impact, formality
  2. what hasn't been worn lately :absence makes the heart grow fonder
  3. how the spirit strikes me
·

I don't have a system; I just wear whatever I feel like wearing on a particular day.

Lately it's been my GSAR and Navigator mostly, with my DS30 and C63 thrown in for good measure.

When I do change watches it's normally in the morning after I am dressed for work and pick a watch that suits my plans for the day.

·

It depends most on what I am wearing and what I will be doing that day.

I agree with this.

·

Mood/style vs. practicality is a 50-50 for me.

At work I need a Gshock/Casio for my reassurance.

·

Depends on my mood i often wear a watch that is newer until i get in the mood to switch lol. Than i will change my mind when i miss an older watch and its memories lol.

·

Generally I swap during the day depending on what I'm doing.

·

I’m actually on day 7 of my week of one watch. I think it is a good experience for me. I feel a stronger fondness for all the ones I haven’t worn and the one I have if that makes sense.

·

Mostly spontaneous. What I want to wear now. Like to wear watches several days in a row. Broke the habit a bit for WRUW diversity. I also unlike many people sleep wearing watches

I posted this months ago, but it is still the case:

In terms of collection, I just stare at them all and go:

  • what was I wearing and do I want to wear it again
  • what haven’t I worn in a while
  • who deserves a wearing (I’m looking at you Oris ChronOris, you ungrateful ****)
  • what am I doing that day
  • wind the Sapho because I’m paranoid
  • pick something, find it’s not working, shout at it. Maybe change the battery or shake it.
  • wind Sapho again, but it’s at the max so stop
  • wonder why I have so many watches. Ponder life choices.
  • remind myself to change strap on Majex - forget by the end of this sent…
  • close my eyes and point at watch randomly.
  • change mind, grab first choice; realise I’m late for work

I mean, I still shout at the Sapho although the Eros Sport and Avia Polar Star are slowly working their way into the crosshairs, and the Oris is still persona non-grata (it's working right now, ffs). After the 1WC it's usually now just grab the G10 which is the first choice.

·

I wear a different watch every day, the rotation is about 2 months.

For a long time my watches were a safe queen. I just stuck to one beater, but wound all of my watches once a week so the oils don't gum up and put them back in the safe. One time I showed my collection to a friend and he was appalled that I had all these nice watches and I don't wear them, and they look fresh out of the box. Since then I have been on a 1 week rotation. Now all my watches get equal wrist time. I really like the 1 week schedule, coz I can then still wind all my watches up ( for maintenance ) and pick one to wear for that week.

·

I only have one watch in my collection so I enjoy it everyday…

im also a pathological liar…😵‍💫😉

·

I wear my Gshock(s) to work generally.

So those for 5-6 days a week but on a weekend I choose whichever watch I'm in the mood for only changing during the day if my current watch is impractical for a certain activity, don't want to swim in a dress watch or wear a Gshock out to a nice dinner ect 👍

I do something similar, except that I curse at different watches. My Walthams have been balky. I have ignored my Elgin and Hamilton. I have worn too many rectangles or not enough. Does today require gold? This week I swapped straps from brown to black to match shoes, although I never do that (it is the point of quick swap straps after all). Tonight I will tinker with the Wakmann to see if I can regulate it some. That may change tomorrow's plans.

Pretty much one watch per day, but no pattern. Sometimes 2 per day, I do repeat wear on trips only.

·

I usually decide which watch to wear while I drink coffee in the morning. Very seldom did it end with me wearing the same watch I did the prior day.

·

Depends on how many watches you have. I try to match my wardrobe around my watches so 1 watch/day. Night is something else that can take beating.

100% with you on this.

Boom this is exactly it

·

I am wearing a watch I received as a gift last month every day . I wear a different one to bed and another to workout in ... I'm addicted

·

I try as much as possible to wear a different watch everyday as a rule. If only to give each watch in the collection equal wrist time. Since I do office work however, my g-shocks only get wrist time during weekends or when I have to do some very seldom active chores/errands during weekdays. I am thinking of trying 1 watch per week and see how it goes if I could even pull it off.

·

I usually change one when the current watch Don't feed the satisfaction of missing it while looking to tell the time during the day...and this could take various time frames from almost a month to a couple of days depending on how my wrist feels while wearing it to how much I've been craving the dial of it

·

I'm all about the quartz but recently I've been wearing the same watches for a few weeks or more before switching.

·

Impulse on the day for me……. I actually remember a time about 40 years ago when life was much simpler, ie get up put watch on (the only one I owned) and got on with the day taking said watch off at night.

Much more complicated these days.
