My Quest to Mod my Casio MDV106 (Pt. 1)

So today while commenting on a fellow Cruncher's post, @Johnniegold, I slipped down the rabbit hole of modding my Casio Duro.

Earlier I ordered a sapphire crystal with cyclops eye for the date window, and I had already swapped out the rubber watch band for a solid link oyster style bracelet about a year ago. Next, I want to replace the bezel insert with a ceramic one.

Doing a bit of research, I came across this website (https://wrwatches.com/products/ceramic-bezel-insert-casio-mdv106-1a-mdv107-1a1-mdv107-1a2?variant=39751379779693) that sells bezel inserts that are supposed to be direct replacements. Granted, I have never heard of this company before, but they also appear to be a distributor of homage watches as well.

Any other Crunchers on here have recommendations for reputable parts sellers for Duro mods?

have fun with it. The Seiko mod scene is bigger but Timex needs some love too. maybe the hands next? easy to do

I figured I would start with one of my inexpensive watches. I do want to mod my Steeldive Captain Willard homage. I have gotten the NH35A in it to be pretty accurate, but I want the watch to look like a real Seiko, i.e. dial and hands. Maybe that would be a project to tackle next

I think the cyclops eye is a good choice considering the date window is a little hard to read (maybe it's because I'm just getting older, 😂). I'm nervous about doing something like a crystal replacement as I've never done any modding what so ever, unless you count changing out the strap.

Same for me. I’m gonna give it the old college try.

Did you have to buy the equipment so you can replace the crystal?

Yeah, I bought a crystal press on Amazon for ~$15. I have pretty much every tool I need to work on my watches except a press, so I figured, "why not?" I have taken the case back off of a couple of my automatic watches to regulate them, which I was a little nervous at first. They are robst enough mechanisms that, unless you drop them or get them gunked up, they will stand up to poking and prodding. I make sure to apply a little silicone lubricant to the gaskets when I close everything up. Don't use petroleum lubricants because they will deteriorate the rubber gaskets.

Mod away! So much fun. If you order that bezel, I would like to hear your thoughts.

Funny how I added date magnifiers to the Duro but I removed the candy bar date magnifier from my Seiko King Turtle SRPE003.

Some watch's designs just don't favor a date magnifier. There's a Steeldive on AliExpress I've seen that mimics the King Turtle with an NH36, but it has the day/date magnifier over it. I think it looks ridiculous. Unless you're just using a cyclops on a date display, it's stylistically unnecessary.
