I really like Brew and Fears releases and I’m afraid that if I dabble, I’ll end up with 5 more watches as well.

·

You are thanking us for helping you find a new reason to spend your money?  Um, glad we could be of service.

·

Speaking of enabling have you checked out Borealis? They’ve got a new gmt coming out and the Sintra that I’ve got is brilliant. I’ve currently got 8 micros and I think they’re great.

It’s more like we all know we will spend $$$ anyways at least having options and variety is always a welcoming thought…variety is the spice of life after all 😉

·

I’m glad you feel this way about WatchCrunch. I have a love/hate relationship with it because it keeps watches top of mind and I end up spending too much

And you sir are a chief enabler.  You have validated my Seiko addiction as “normal” (or that I am not the only seikopath around) and now you are giving me ideas of “microbrand collection” which makes my random impulse buying seem like a plan with a purpose.

Yes, I am now building a very focused micro brand sub-collection!! 😊😇

Awesome!! Some micros have Seiko hearts(movement) anyways so it feels like it’s still Seiko but with a different “soul” 😂 🍻ohhh also which “focused” micro are you looking into?!

Have you considered a vintage Smiths?

its on the docket… 😉

I keep feeling like I need to pick a "grail watch" to have in mind so I can actually slow down with my purchases and start putting funds towards that "nice" piece as a cornerstone for my collection, but I'm just having too much fun with the micros! Haven't checked out Zelos myself, but that  one looks 🔥

I know right!! I’m also debating on the salmon dial or desert sand swordfish Ti… oh limitless possibilities 😉… I also struggle with that idea of “grail” but I don't think that’s not me and my personality…it’s just too much fun with variety 😂

Japanese powered microbrands seem to always use the NH35 and are doing you a favor using a Miyota 9 series. Now i prefer the Swiss powered watches as they are multigenerational pieces where the Japanese are replacement pieces. Chinese watches are only good at the $300.00 plus range to equal the Japanese.

That reads to me like a very broad generalization.

This would make a very interesting collection in years to come. Maybe we could even say ‘they were a microbrand?!’ Either way they’ll showcase an interesting era in watchmaking.

Maybe have a look at some of the names from the Microbrand Tournament to see some of the ‘well regarded’ brands?

Good luck and hope you have fun with the new collection

Yes indeed…I need to star the micro brand thread!!

I figured I'd tempt you with some lesser know microbrands as we all know the Dan Henry, Lorier, Autodromo, Baltic, etc. brands that are seen often on WRUW.

Hope this was interesting...I tried for variety here in styles and designs.

Nice... thank you for the shout.

As a follower of my own advice, this is my Christmas present this year

Image

I asked for either this or a Dan Henry 1945, and Santa said he would see, but I’m naughty and I found out… 🤪

Meanwhile, I’m in a bidding war for a WEWCo Sowar and a 40s military with an AS984 movement. Nothing changes.

It’s ok… we’re back to normal. I won the battle for this.

I really like microbrands.  It's where I feel comfortable experimenting with colors and quirky dials. I like how it helps complete a collection at what is, for watches, mostly affordable prices.

I've got seven microbrand watches (from six brands) in my 15 watch collection. I don't see myself buying any more, but my wife likes to gifts new watches and we have an agreement she stays below $500 when she does.  So can't say I'll never get another, but I won't be shopping for more.

I hope you enjoy your Zelos.  It's a good one.

Excellent! That watch looks like it is in fantastic condition.

I just picked up this Waltham WWII enlisted man's watch from 1942...was a little pricey at $175, but wanted to have an authentic WWII watch in the collection...

That reads to me like a very broad generalization.

None of the microbrands have in house. Off the shelf movements are the only ones they can get in quantity. Seiko have the best name in off the shelf movements and I actually look up the movements in most all the watches you guys post about here and have created a spreadsheet on most of the auto's because I wanted to build a few watches. Also simpler explanations read better here. Parts for the Seiko's are super easy to get whereas Miyota and the Swiss movements have a very small selection of matching cases and parts to build watches with.

·

Zelos is a good microbrand. But they sell out very fast so you have to really catch the right time to get specific models. 🍻

Honestly, I don't want in house for micros. High servicing costs for a less than $1k watch? Not liking the idea.

My intersection is sellita, PT5000 or seagull movement with creative finishing. That's the fun sweet spot for me.

·

Have you looked at Vero watches? Latest models offer sellita movements. They regulate in house. And they have an eye catching 10 year no questions asked warranty. You can send in your watch anytime for free regulation.

I’m giving serious thought to trying for the Sage Green Swirdfish. Only thing stopping me is the horrid exchange rate ☹️
