Old POCKET watches

A Hamilton and an Elgin, they are my fathers and  I know nothing about them.

Hamilton crown will wind, but the hands will not run.  Crystal screws off.  Crown will not come up.

I was messing with the Elgin crown and the second hand started going, not the hour hand.  No crystal on Elgin.

Worth getting serviced and saving?

Thanks!

Pocket Watches.

Might be worth getting an estimate, at least. Depends on how sentimental you are.

Don't mess with them on your own though. You'll just add to the cost of service, or worse.

The crystal is probably not a big deal. I had a broken crystal on a key wound pocket watch (later 1800s) that I thought would be unobtainium, but God bless standard sizes.

The big question is, will you wear them? If not, the only reason to fix them is either to use them as desk clocks or to fix them now while they can be fixed just in case for future use.

Each of those watches is likely to be a hundred years old or older.  They both have a family connection. They were both made my companies that produced quality pocket watches.

Get estimates. Budget the repairs over months. Save and restore them. They are family relics from a pre-disposable world.

Thank you!  I am going to do just this.  I actually got the Elgin to run!

Thanks for posting the pics of these watches. I would invest in servicing at least one for sentimental value, but that is just me.
