Got the call for the Rolex Explorer 1 36mm? not sure what to do

Hey Folks,

Got a message from the AD that they have Explorer 1 36mm for me, but with the new 40mm one I am a bit torn as to what to do. Shall just get this one? Or wait for the 40mm? mmm, what to do?

How big is your wrist. I prefer the classic 36 to the 40 imho.

If I were in your shoes I'd go for the 36mm as it's available now and a classic, timeless size.

Disclaimer: this is mega-subjective and I am a 6.5" wristed fan of comfy vintage watches in the 32-38mm range.

just over 7inches

The Situation at the Rolex ADs has slowly changed the past months and the market getting callmed down.

Even the ADs pretend that "you are so lucky to get final call", but many models are more easy to get compared to the situation two years before.

Maybe you have to wait a year again.

But I would rather wait a year instead of paying several thousand dollars for watch I actually don't like....only because I'm the "lucky chosen one".

Still get in mind.

You are not getting the watch as present.

You have to pay for...a lot.

And you have to work for this money...a lot.

So if it's not the perfect watch for you...leave it and wait for the 40mm

I actually prefer the 40mm.

·

Wait for the 40mm , have some

Poor fellow with a small wrist have at it… 😂

Think that looks good on you regardless of size.

·

First off, congrats on even getting a call! IMO, with your wrist size - I’d hold for the 40mm, since it’s closest to the “coveted”, discontinued 39mm. Ultimately, it comes down to how much you love the look of the 36mm on your wrist and how long you’re willing to wait for the larger size. Good luck 🤙❤️🤙

·

36 is classic. 40 is huge on a threehander IMO 😊

·

Leave it at the AD and buy a Smith's.

Nobody has mentioned you could buy the 36 wear it until you get the call for the 40 then decide after trying both on ,you could trade it in against the 40 if your prefer the 40,from my experience watches are not getting any easier to get

·

The 36mm looks comical on myself

·

I like the way 36mm looks on in the photo!

·

Just get it , looks perfect!

·

BUY IT!!!!!

Yes and no. Bezel diameter plays a big role. A 38mm Bambino wears smaller than a 38mm Max Bill Junghans.

Yes, dial realestate is a huge factor. But also dial colors. Lug-to-lug and so on

·

Too small 36….

·

Bigger is not always better. I have a 7.5" wrist, I prefer the 36mm , it just has the better proportions visually. Clark Gable wore 34mm. Sylvester Stollone wore 45mm. Both looked good- Clark always looked better.

·

If you like 35mm watches (yes 35mm) then get the 36.

If you prefer 40mm watches, get the 40.

I love the 36: an absolute classic.

imo it's a 36mm watch. The other sizes are 'not the real thing'.

Check out Lorier Falcon 3, be different, and save $9,500.

Folks, I really appreciate the comments, and suggestion in helping me with this decision . After some research and thinking on the pros and cons decided against the 36mm although I would have been okay with it but I think I would have always thought what would be like with the 40mm. I would rather wait now for the 40mm. Hopefully someone who really wanted 36mm can get it.

·

do as you’re told and buy what the AD tells you to buy, mindless watch-loving zombie!! and you’ll be happy for it too! you should be grateful you get to give them your money.

seriously tho, i’d buy the 36. it’s pretty classic and you can’t go wrong. the 40 is also nice. tbh, either choice would be great. run, don’t walk, to the AD and snap it up quick.

No WoS in London

ahh i guess they all look the same

·

I refused the call for the 2 tone, I was in your same position, if you truly want the 40 wait for it if you prefer 36 go for 36. If you need try the 39 tjat should help you decide.

Right decision man!

·

If you want it, go ahead. If you don't, make sure someone else will pay for you if you get it lol

·

If your heart wants the 40, go for that. I have a 7.25" wrist and would prefer that size. I didn't like the 36mm Explorer I when I tried it on. I added the 40 to my interest list the day it was announced, but I got the text a week later for the Explorer II at the top of my list, so I got that.

·

Get it, flip it and pick up the 40m grey market
