#GMThursday: Quick Review of the Jack Mason StratoTimer

A Week on the Wrist

Thanks to Peter @TimeToDesign, I was one of the first to get a production version of the Jack Mason StratoTimer so I could take it on vacation! It was one of only two(!) watches I brought when we went to the Mayan Riviera. I normally travel with 4+ watches for a week away, but I really wanted to enjoy this one, so I wore it the most during our vacation. A quick recap of its features: 40x13x47mm, boxed sapphire crystal, Miyota 9075 Traveller GMT movement, 200m WR, and quick release jubilee bracelet with glidelock style clasp.

Right off the bat, very comfortable on my 17cm (6.75") wrist. The Candy Corn version is striking with its white dial & orange bezel. I also love that they made the markers & handset on this colour a dark grey to give it more legibility. All other colourways get silver hands & markers. The new Miyota 9075 movement is a pleasure to use. Setting the jumping hour hand is easy and doesn't hack the movement, so you wont lose accuracy as you land in your destination.

Here are the highlights of my week with it:

- The glidelock style, on-the-fly adjustable clasp is a must-have! My wrist probably fluctuated +/-0.5cm throughout the day going from air-conditioned rooms to the beach, having several cocktails, and eating all the delicious salted meats.

- Amusingly, it was a great conversation starter as it was mistaken not once but twice as a Rolex! One chap wearing an Omega SMP300 wondered if it was a new GMT Master variant he'd yet to see. Another wearing a Citizen Navihawk asked "which Rolex is that?" and later explaining it was the jubilee bracelet that fooled him. Both times, our wives all rolled their eyes. Hehe

- While I cannot confirm the 20ATM water-resistance, I did come dangerously close to the 200m(argaritas) level.

- Lastly, the white dial was the easiest to photograph as it didn't reflect my fingers or drinks on the crystal! lol

All in all a fantastic watch and my only slight negative is the backplay on the bidirectional GMT bezel. Other than that, I am a huge fan and highly recommend it (even though I believe it is sold out).

That is a good looking watch. I really feel like that 40mm size is the sweet spot.

Agreed! Specially in this cushion case 😎👍

Can’t wait for my Americana to ship. The orange is striking as well but I’m not a fan of orange in general so couldn’t do that one.

It was a tough choice for me since I'm selling my BB GMT (too big for me now) but still want a Pepsi in the collection

I am jealous!! Great to see that you enjoyed the stratotimer so much. I can't wait for mine to ship!

Oooh that is a unique colour combo!

I forgot to ask, with your 6.75” wrist (I’m 6.5”), how do you find the long clasp? Is it uncomfortable or too bulky?

As mentioned, not bulky at all but any smaller wrist might find it sticks out

Much appreciated! I also didn’t realize until now that you were the OP of both threads. Apologies for the double question!

Haha all good. I just thought you reeeally wanted to know 😂

Will the WatchCrunch edition happen ? Asking before I commit to another Sprite like GMT.

Just gorgeous... I like the idea of GMT's but few of the ones in my (budget-medium) price range ever speak to me. The Strat-o-timer really nails that "upscale Texiana" style - i.e. it looks like the hipstery parts of Houston compressed into a watch. Maybe I've spent too much time as a Canadian visiting that state but I totally fell for it immediately!

Gee, those guys that were confused must not be watch guys.

That aside, wish youy had covered some vital points in a review. Such as, how is the finishing, how is the comnfort, what were the rate results, etc.
