THIS is why I love WatchCrunch!!!

So, there are many, many, many wonderful people here on WatchCrunch:

  • @celinesimon if you want knowledge and insights from an industry professional
  • @Aurelian if you want to laugh your butt off from all the one-line zingers, where somehow he manages always to be the first post in every thread
  • @chronotriggered for every hilarious post in which he talks about how he’s losing his shirt over the most recent vintage acquisition, how he hates vintage watches, how he’s vowing never again to make this mistake…   and then 3 days later, @chronotriggered’s new post, in which he talks about how he’s losing his shirt over the most recent…
  • @Bessio and @Robcollects for nobly stepping up and making high bids on auction watches, and ensuring some of the poorest of the poor will have their poverty alleviated to some small extent
  • @PopitonaNATO for reminding the rest of us that we’re old and that the cold, bony hand of death is coming for the rest of us soon, meanwhile, at that point, he’ll probably be a freshman in college or something
  • There’s even this guy, @Max.  I have no idea what he does, but whatever, he’s here too

And there are many, many, many more wonderful folks here on this forum - too many to adequately praise.

But, none of you are my favorite.  Nope.  Not a single one of you qualifies.  You all pale in comparison to the best person on this site.  And that person is @Jericho!

“Why?  Why, oh dear lord, has this come to pass?” you might be asking yourself at this very moment.  “Why am I not Omeganut’s favorite?” you may be crying, as you gnash your teeth and rend your garments.

Well, the answer is that, unlike you, @Jericho has made, for me, five custom straps for Omega-style deployant clasp!  FIVE!!!  And they are out of this world cool.

  • Strap #1 - Baby blue chicken foot leather!  This is my Liberace strap.  When I want to feel fabulous, this is what goes on my wrist!

Skate Guy GIFs | Tenor
  • Strap #2 - Brown goat skin leather!  It’s soft and supple…  like…  soft and supple goat skin
Image
  • Strap #3 - Cognac chicken foot leather!  Notice how nicely the cognac strap matches with the golden hued GS logo and seconds hand???
Image
  • Strap #4 - Grayish olive goat skin leather!  It’s soft and supple…  like…  well, you already know.  And I think it matches nicely with the grayish dark hued titanium
Image
  • Strap #5 - Brown chicken foot leather!  Kinda offsets the muddy green of the SBGE257

And, look!  In addition to all the straps, @jericho even included a hand-made leather watch pouch and a hand-made suede strap holder!

All this for a criminally low price relative to any other custom strap maker I’ve ever commissioned from.

Well, now, I hope we’ve all learned a valuable lesson here today.  In the future, if you wish to be Omeganut’s favorite forum member, you know what to do, yeah?  Chop-chop.  Get on it.

i thought it was a crocodile leather at first. i didnt know there are watch strap using chicken foot leather 😂. is it also considered as exotic leather? great strap👍

·

Damn, @Jericho  that is some fine work! I may have to commission some straps from you to match a few of my handbags 👜

congrats @Omeganut on your new epic strap collection 👏 (and thank you for the shout out!)

·

Side note, cognac chicken might be my fave

does he make Beaver tail strap?

·

I just want to say that I hate you all equally for aiding and abetting in this hobby cough, addiction, cough by reminding me how cool it is and showing me new pieces to hunt after.

Just kidding. I love you all to bits. My wallet doesn't though. But that's okay. We'll just print more money.

·

I'm going to cry! I was super hyped waiting to see the straps on the watches, and i am extatic to see them now! I have to say the #3 Grand Seiko is astonishing! I can't agree more, there's plenty of great people around, it's heart warming. I've been working lately to set up my new workshop on the street where I live, I'm planning to print the pictures of the watches and hang them on the walls to fill the room!

·

Can't always be first with @Unholy lurking around. That dude never sleeps.

Where is the macroeconomic analysis of chicken foot leather? Why didn't Frank Perdue figure out how to monetize that? (All good looking straps to be wasted on a non-photogenic wrist. You are either born with it, or not.)

Don't forget @Deeperblue for being a conversation starter and @MrBloke , @SimplyVintageWatches , @Scaramanga , and @WatchYourIntruder for actually knowing something about watches.

·

Killer GS line up you've got there 💪

·

Must have gone through a lot of chickens. They make my straps out of the endangered Nauga for their hydes. Seriously nice custom work though.

does he make Beaver tail strap?

Never worked with that but something I can try!

·

great post 👌

·

Awesome! Great looking straps and watches. Excellent presentation. 🎯

·

Does the chicken foot leather double as jerky in an emergency?

The chicken foot leather straps tend to be stiffer and thicker.  They're great for thick watches, like GS GMTs!

I want you to interview Nicolas Cage about his watch collection.  That would be the ultimate article!

Love your passion and insightful comments all the time @Omeganut ! You always encourage people to love their watches and preference! Hopefully one day I can get a collection near your caliber!

Thank you so much, my man.  You wanna know something funny?  I've come to realize that I love something like the Seiko Monster or the Presage as much as my GS!  This is a really funny hobby.  When I started out, I only had eyes for "luxury" watches.  More and more, I'm really digging all the amazing stuff that Seiko (not even GS) puts out.  I'm coming to learn that it's not about "caliber" of the collection, but the fun of the collection!

Oh, but you missed the subtext: @Omeganut now likes the watches that the proles wear. He is now going to drive scarcity by buying up desirable Seikos. He is the Bunker Hunt of affordable watches. His is the long game.

Ha!  Well, I missed out on the sudden meteoric price rise in integrated steel sports watches (RO, Nautilus, Overseas) so I'm damned if I'm going to miss out on the Seiko train.

All joking aside, Mr. Talking Hands said something absolutely brilliant in one of the Watchfinder videos, recently.  He said that the prices of collectibles jumps at about the 50 year mark.  So, all the integrated steel sports watches first became a thing in the 70s, and ~50 years later, they became hot collectors' items, and prices for vintage RO, Nautili, and Overseas's's's's's skyrocketed.

Makes a great deal of intuitive sense.  We're most impressionable in our teenage years - that's when we actually form our lifelong preferences, etc.  (There's this FASCINATING study that demonstrates this.  You how everyone points out that the taller you are, the more you earn?  And everyone thinks that it's because of height-ism?  Totally wrong.  Has nothing to do with that.  Turns out it's much more fascinating than that, and has to do with personality formation in the teen years!  But, not enough room to talk about that now.)  So, all these people who were growing up and saw these integrated steel sports watches thought, "Wow...  one day, if I become rich..."  And then, they worked all their lives, these 70's watches fell completely out of fashion...   And then, bam, some of these people became wealthy enough to afford them, now in their late 60's to 70's, and voila!  Out of the blue, the prices for these 70's style watches goes through the roof!

So, if you subscribe to that hypothesis, next up would be something like the original quartz watches that came out in the 80's.  That would be fascinating to see happen!

Oh, sweet!

Too funny.  I made a couple of mistakes!

  • I ordered the Fragment through Amazon
  • And then seeing your comment just now, I was like, "Can't miss out on swag!"  So, ordered the Overwatch through what I thought was your site, but what must be a reseller, Blade HQ
  • Finally figured out that your site is Bladerunner Systems, I think, so went ahead and got the Nomad

So, now, I have 3 of your knives coming my way!  Ha!
