Put the Baltic MR01 Salmon up for charity auction now? Or wait till after the new year?

Peeps! I got a question for you. I was just informed that my Baltic MR01 Salmon is on the way. Should arrive in the next week or so, I'm guessing. My plan is to put the watch up for charity auction, with all proceeds going to GiveDirectly.org, with 4x matching funds. Here's the conundrum, though: * I've already maxed out my employer match for 2022 * In order to get the employer match, I'd have to submit the donation in calendar year 2023 So, here's the question: 1. Should I go ahead and run the auction now and just hold the cash until January 1, 2023, and then submit to get the full employer match? The reason to do the auction now is that the MR01 Salmon is in high demand, with lowest asking price on Chrono24 at ~$1,024 at the moment. Thus, if I auction it now, I'm guessing this will raise the most possible money for GiveDirectly.org 2. Or, just hold the watch until January 1, 2023, and run the auction at that time? The reason to wait is so that nobody thinks, "Whoa! Why did @hotwatchchick69 run a charity auction now, and then just hold onto the cash??? Maybe he's trying to pull a fast one on all of us!"

Get the employee match.

Oh, yeah, yeah.  Totally, the plan is to get the employee match no matter what.  The question is:

  • Auction now, hold onto the cash, wait till January 1, 2023 to submit the donation, ALL in order to get the employee match...  drawback is that people might think, "Yo, he's holding onto the cash because he ain't gonna donate it!"
  • Or, just wait till January 1, 2023 to run the action, so as to not have any confusion at all

That's the question I'm asking!

Since you can't get the watch from Baltic right now...now is the time if it's for charity

Oooooh.  Either way then, I feel like you've done this enough that no one will have an issue if you hang on to the cash.

Maybe all this time, all the watch auctions I've been running have been part of a long con!  Like, I've been lulling everyone on WC into complacency, just for this one, final, big score!

I'm like Danny DeVito in "Heist"!

doooo it.

As @mpower5266 said, no one will question your integrity if you decide to auction and wait for the match in January.

January, huh?! Are you saying you can wait until January without an auction?!  You won't even make it to October 😂

·

Again...  like Danny DeVito...

I'll hold onto it until January for you. You know, so you won't be tempted do something rash 🤣

·

Only if you split it with me.

·

Why don’t wait and you can enjoy your new watch until January.

Nah!  Gonna auction it brand new, still wrapped in plastic!  I figure that's gotta be the way to raise the most money, yeah?

As long a you ***PROMISE & SWEAR*** @WatchYourIntruder didn’t just post a picture of the actual Baltic, auction when you‘re ready. If I win, fine for you to hold my cash . . . only my cash now, mind you.

·

Definitely auction it now - with holiday shopping around the corner, this is peak watch buying time. Gorgeous watch!

·

I would wait an auction it in December.   Maybe a little after TG.   im not an expect in this area but recall charitable giving typically is highest at the end of the year.  And then you are only holding the money for no more than a month

IMHO, @HotWatchChick69, you should change your focus from financing mainly fit, non-disabled poor adults that can work for a living, to children in third world countries, in Africa, Asia, South America, or anywhere else, able and disabled, orphaned or abandoned, for food, shelter, and education. Financially adopt a child or children today and make a lifetime of difference. I think that is a more worthwhile cause, my friend, IMHO. Do not give poor, lazy adults fish, but teach poor children to fish. All you are doing is providing needy families with consumable fish. Just my fraction of a fish!

·

I ran the 2022 watch budget to zero before February.  Waiting for January and more watch money.  I would love to buy this for my wife and borrow it all the time.

Yo dude!  I think you and I are on the same page.  GiveDirectly.org does in fact send nearly all of any given donation to families in Africa living under the global poverty line of $1.90 / day.  Check it out!

The money goes to helping out the poorest of the poor!

Yes, you should absolutely buy this for your wife...  which really means just buying it for yourself!

I have noticed that watch prices are higher from September to December with a sharp drop in the January holiday hangover.

I say auction when it will generate the most and donate when it will benefit the most.

·

Better do it Now. Spoke with someone at Baltic and it’s gonna be available to all in late Oct of 22

·

I'd auction it now in the lead to xmas while people are high on the spirit of giving. After new year this tends to dull down a bit, so now's the time to maximise the opportunity.
