What is your opinion on panerai?

I have come to grow on liking the Panerai watches over the years. I was passing a boutique and saw this one in the window. What do you guys think about this watch and the brand.

I just can't get past that crown protector. Adds a special level of ugliosity to them. Otherwise, they seem to be pretty good watches.

·

I like the look of Panerai watches , back in the day I had a Pam111. They were once a very hyped and sort after brand but today they are unfortunately a slowly sinking ship. I would look up the various gaffs they have made in recent years.

·

I don't have one (an opinion) and this is exactly the problem that Panerai has. Those who like the brand already own one and have very little incentive to move on to newer models. On the other hand, Panerai wasn't really successful in getting new customers or raising interest with their newer models and is often overlooked by potential buyers in this price segment.

·

I like them and love the uniqueness of the crown guard. The cost is the only thing that puts me off, but only because there are alternatives I'd always prefer at that level. I also like Fears, who did the cushion case years before Panerai.

·

I like them but majority of the line up are too big for me. I was tempted by the 38mm luminor due but ended up going with the Santos. I think that’s the problem as mentioned above, the price band they are in has other more sought after options (generally speaking)

·

This might sound crazy. I also feel the same about many brands but I do not see the value in buying a Panerai. Not the best website for pricing but the cheapest Panerai is 3,900. you can easily get a Tudor or a Sea Master. Also the same box shape feels like you seen one you seen them all. Again I never wore one or held one so I might be jumping in the hate wagon too quick.

I like the history and actually think the PAM01301 (pictured) looks nice. But I can't get past it being £9k for a 'dive watch' with 30m of water resistance. It's form over function. But then again, I don't personally need more than 3 metres of water resistance!

·

Personally I am fascinated by them , my skinny wrist and those lugs just don’t suit me . Their pricing kills any aspirations to own one for me barring a lotto win, then yes absolutely I would want one in the collection.

I would probably pick the Santos over a Luminor too , I like the P5000 movement Panerai watches but as you point out and Catskinner also , the competition at the price point leaves them out of a lot of other choices I would make first .

·

The lack of minute markers makes them a no-go for me. I don't see the point of an expensive watch if it cannot tell the time with any accuracy

·

If you look at the history of this brand you have to be impressed. But like so many others here I feel the price bracket they are in, you have many more options with more heritage and even better watches generally speaking.

I do like the design of them, very 'tooly' if they were priced like a Doxa 200 Sub I would be tempted, in this range of pricing, no thank you

Yeah exactly.

Panerai = Maserati

I’d happily buy one if the Porsche didn’t exist. 🤷🏻‍♂️

·

I have a couple of them. I lik them as a casual sport watch..

·

Panerai is a niche brand that you either love or hate. Most can not get over the mousetrap holding the crown in or the size.

·

Panerai is the brand that lies over and over again (all those controversies about using ETA and lying about it in 2021, downgrading power reserve, no more hacking, and the list goes on). I don't know what is going on inside the top management's head. My father was thinking about getting one because he liked the unique design but I told him not to.

This post might help with your background research and might cover the specific details @KnK0909 is referring to.

My Panerai is my favorite watch and I wear it a lot.

·

If I had 8 inch wrists I would probably have 20 Panerai and nothing else.

·

I don´t have one but I really like the PAM00914 and the PAM00112....I might buy one one day...

·

I have 6.5 inch wrists, I have the Luminor 44mm PAM1313... Its amazing, fits perfect, once you get one then you understand, the Italian simple laid back dial, tough as nails, strap monster, unique design, I love the brand and I mostly have Rolex... Paid 15% off at the AD, totally worth it, if you haven't gone Panerai yet, your missing out, you gotta have at least one in your collection.

I want to add the PAM1226 Submersible White dial to have another diver besides my Submariner no date, Panerai has probably the best dive bezel in the business even better than Rolex
