The new Omega Ultra Deep

Omega has once again outdone themselve with the Ultra deep!!! First thing I think they are spot on with the look of this watch and how crazy is it that this bad boy can go 20,000 feet deep. just look at the prev model that only went 2,000!!! It’s also not a bad price of $11,000.

What do you guys think about this piece?

So they can go to depth without the obnoxious helium escape valve… jk

How chunky is this bad boi?

Probably pretty chunky. Unfortunately it doesn’t have an exhibition back either.

Honestly - I don’t like it. I think the bezel and dial don’t really gel well together, and I think the numbers on the bezel are too large and those on the dial are too small. In fact they probably could have done away with the dial numbers altogether - my eyes are just flitting between 12, 50, 6, 30… its too busy. I’m sure there are many reasons why it looks this way, but I’m staring at it and I’m struggling to tell the time.

Sorry.

If I had the wrist for it, I'd definitely get it.  Crazy cool.  Can you imagine showing up somewhere with this giant brick attached to your arm?  Would make for an awesome conversation piece!

I think it’s awesome!

If i only had a wrist to pair with it (and the money) this would be on my list!

·

I have mixed feelings.

On one hand, this is ridiculous. It's a dive watch capable of depths 18x deeper than any human has been with SCUBA gear. And if you did go swim with the Kraken, you wouldn't time it with a rotating bezel. The mission to test it took 12 hours.

On the other hand, this is awesome. Why? Because we can.

On either hand it looks cool but too big for me at 45.5mm diameter, 18.12mm height and 56mm lug-to-lug.

Very very nice looking, if i get tired of waiting on a rolex sub i would consider this one in a heartbeat.

It's coming up to 8 minutes past 50

·

I wouldn’t mind having one. Although I will probably never go even 200 meters deep. 👀

·

Overkill and outrageously priced.

And I like Omega.

Oh cool, Martian time. I have family there so it’ll be useful.

I assume at 6000m you'd be in some sort of submersible where, and I may be wrong here, WR rating wouldn't be a factor?!

·

This Ultra Deep was undoubtedly about Omega beating Rolex specs. Surely they don't expect to sell many of them. File it along with their Alaska Project Speedmaster for the extreme temperature swings of space. Almost entirely bragging rights for the company and the very few who would buy it as niche enthusiasts. And if I do see one around town, that watch fan gets a high-five from me. Shine on, you crazy diamond.

Yes mate, that's 9000 psi.  No suit on earth is going  to protect you from that.  Utterly pointless but I'd have one in a heart beat if I had the lolly.

Your Formula 1 has let itself go…

Ah the Alaska Project. I would love one of those. Do you know, as much as I would like to see such an arms race in watches again, I don’t think it’s likely to happen anymore as everything is about the bottom line. Plus no one will release anything that ugly - which is a shame.

·

Omega needs to supply a good batch of steroids to go with the purchase if I’m ever going to pull this one off. 🤐

·

I'd argue there are exactly 0 people that need a 6000m watch (probably <100 who need 300m.)

I think this is a super cool "because we can" flex, but I kind of don't see the point as a customer.

·

Most stupid watch I've seen in a while.  I used to really like Omega.

Dayam. If my wife approved $11k to buy a watch I would totally rock this.

You know what?  F&^% it.  I'm going to get it at some point.  No question.  It's in the queue.  I'll look as cool as this guy with it on my tiny wrist, but whatever:

You’ve got the name for it. Now to uphold that reputation.

You know, I've been looking into this piece and now I just have to try it on. I'm going to go to the Omega boutique across town and will report back.

Im all in. What a stunning piece of kit. Not in my price range though. If they could translate that line up to the SMP I’d be all over it.

·

The anvil sized Omega - and the new worlds thinnest Bulgari photocopy watch  - are a bit goofy, and impractical but quite striking looking.   Not at all wanting to buy either one, but would be cool to see one in the wild.

I suppose if somehow these design exercises mean they will do a better job making new “regular” watches (say a 300m Aqua Terra?  An affordable 4mm automatic watch?)

Sadly I expect the ‘worlds best ‘ category watches are really more marketing exercises than trickle down engineering for lesser models. 🙂

·

If someone wants an idiotically sized watch that's unwieldy, catches every door frame in its way and barely fits even under a way too loose tracksuit jacket, this is certainly an option.

Fascinating from a purely technical standpoint, sure. But to me - nothing beyond that.

There are some watches that maybe I'd forgive their ridiculous size - the IWC Big Pilot, Panerai's 47mm reissues... But nope, not this one.

Me: "You sure about this?"

Doc: "Of course. That's why they call it Ultra Deep. I've seen treatments cheaper but none more effective."

Well I dropped by today to see some cool pieces. Unfortunately the Ultra Deep won't be out until around May.
