Gekota Pioneer Review

I received the Gekota Pioneer a few weeks ago for my birthday. The retail price is £399 but I had an on line voucher which gave me a fifty quid discount so £349 for this British designed watch from the Microbrand Gekota who are perhaps better known for their quality straps and bracelets.

There are seven dial alternatives and I chose the black honeycomb which has great depth and texture in my view..

So what do you get for your money?

A vintage style space age design according to Gekota and I'm happy to agree.

Something unusual and different and very well put together.

Inside the 316L 42mm case beats the microbrand favourite NH 35 movement. So hacking and handwinding with no further complications. A reliable if unremarkable workhorse which has kept good time ( not measured).

45mm lug to lug and 22mm lugs so a good size. Quite tall at 14mm including the domed sapphire. Anti reflective coating as well.

200m WR which is strong in a watch of this type with a signed screw down crown.

The hands and 3 6 9 are very easy to read in vivid gold colour and it is easy to tell the time in low light due to the decent lume which is both bright and reasonably long lasting

My particular watch was numbered 071/075 so not made in large numbers

And all of this with a two year guarantee.

I have always been attracted to space age design so as a child growing up in the 70s I find this type of watch particularly appealing.

You get a lot of specification and style for your money with this model as you do from Gekota as a brand. They are well worth checking out and this particular watch is highly recommended!

Thank you! Yes it's pretty nice and definitely under-appreciated!

That's really lovely 😍 I'll have a look at their watches, never looked at them before even though I pretty much use their NATO's exclusively ( one of the few to make proper NATO's with no points of failure,ie a sewn in buckle)

Congratulations. 👍🏻👍🏻

Some of the colours are nice particularly the green.

Looks nice but a bit thick. Would have liked to see a wrist photo too. The movement could be a bit better quality I think. Nice original look to it though.

Nice dial and I love the hand set on this and many other #geckota watch's.

Yes its quite a tall watch but it didn't put me off! NH 35 is what it is really!
