Norway 馃嚦馃嚧 Holiday Watches

My lovely wife booked a cruise for my 60th. We sail tomorrow to the Norwegian Fjords for a week.

The weather forecast is mixed so we are going prepared for wind and rain although it's June.

Apart from packing ( which I'm still doing) I had to, of course, spend time deliberating which watches to take!

We will be hopefully doing lots of trekking, some swimming and a great deal of eating and watching entertainment on board.

For no scientific reason I decided five was a good number to work with.

On that basis I've gone with good water resistance, robustness, some ability to dress up and a bit of variety (allbeit there are three divers!)

Also it's a secure safe environment so hopefully no concerns for being robbed!

In no particular order my travel companions will be...

Tudor PO1

Circula Divesport Titanium

Rolex Datejust 41

Nezumi Aviera GMT v2

Tudor Pelagos

My chosen few include my three most expensive pieces but if you can't wear them on a holiday cruise then when can you?

So I've got a GMT, a dress/GADA, and three divers!

What do you reckon? What would you do differently? Do the watches tie in with the vacation?

Shocking omission of a Gasworks special. 馃ぃ

Nezumi. Makes it a scandinavian trip.

Have fun!

More than one watch on vacation makes no sense to me. I'd just take the Nezumi. Or the Datejust.

GasWorks

I know my friend. I did think about that. The truth is my @GasWorks specials are too precious to risk crossing the north sea and up near the artic circle!

That's true! I might look for some Norwegian watches whilst I'm there!?

I think:

  1. It's not a party without a little bit of leather - can you bring a strap change maybe? Or a replacement for....

  2. One of your 3 most expensive watches. What if: (a) someone breaks into your cabin and steals the lot; or (b) there are icebergs about (I'm a glass half empty kind of guy). 馃榾 It would be nice to think all your eggs aren't in one basket.

Bon voyage!

Correct answer! 馃憦

The PO 1 has a leathet/ rubber strap so I'm half way there!

Fair point about all my eggs in one basket. It's my normal pattern!

Hopefully no icebergs in the North Sea in June but you never know!

Yeah, I maybe didn't think that one through! 馃槀

Makes sense but I would never get packed as I'd spend all my time deciding what to take! The nezumi would cover all bases.

Well I'm old and opinionated. "I thought it was safe" doesn't work for me. I say go with three watches. Leave the Rolex and one of the Tudors home. No pun intended but you're going overboard. Like it's my business.

Excellent selection. Class from top to bottom. Coincidentally I will also be traveling to Norway next week. If I run in to a particularly exceptionally dressed wrist I'll know it's you馃嵒

Love it! I think you've got it covered!

Happy 60th! Have a great trip. Remember, don't regret getting older, as some people don't get the chance.

Enjoy watch friend 馃憣

Happy Birthday Craig. My wife and I did a 14 night Norwegian cruise last year and there were fabulous warm/sunny days and cold/rainy too. I took 5 watches and my wife took 3. Norway is as safe as you can get and suspect the cruise ship is too especially if you leave them in your in room safe. So take what you want and enjoy otherwise why have them. Personally I prefer more dress watches for the evening and would have a GMT and diver for daily excursions and travel to and fro. Below are a handful of photos from the cruise. Enjoy!!

Great choice of watches ,but if there isn't a safe in the cabin I'd only take the pelagos , definitely good for swimming and still looks classy in the evenings

No opinion on which watches to take, nor how many. I did want to wish you a happy birthday however, and hope you have a great cruise!

Thank you. It's our first and my Mrs has been opposed for a while so I'm hoping she likes it!

Always_Pooh

As much as I like and fully appreciate your devotion to which watches to take on holiday (glad I am not the only one who does this) I think three divers is unnecessary. One will cover the bases. Happy sailing

Divers are my obvious weakness!

Random fact - my dad is also off on a cruise to Norwegian Fjords tomorrow! Maybe you鈥檒l bump in to him. Unfortunatly he isn鈥檛 a watch guy

If he's on the Iona we may well do!

Personally, I like the Nezumi best. But I鈥檓 too frugal for real luxury watches. Nice assortment to travel with! Enjoy the trip.

The nezumi is all you need really. It has 200m WR and a screw down crown. Arguably not cutting it for the evenings though.

thisjeffmartin

How's the Nezumi? Looks like a cool watch and might want an affordable gmt... Wondering how it fits in with such a nice collection.

The nezumi is my only GMT and this is my first trip abroad since I got it so it made the first team for this trip. I'm a big fan of the brand.

Oldmanwatches

Double check your policy as my wife's only covered if she's wearing it or it's on our safe

I will!

Grab the pelagos and enjoy the wife!

Keep it simple, that's my vote.

Good vacation choice馃憣 The weather is shit this weekend, and the next week, but thats "vestlandet" for you. We actually have an exceptinal cold june month as well馃槄 But the fjords are still beautiful and the norwegian currency is weak, so I bet you'll have a great trip, who wouldn't with such fine company (referring to your watches, I don't know the missus馃し馃徏鈥嶁檪锔). Enjoy your stay, maybe I see your ship outside my livingroom window, if you're docking in stavanger馃榿

Sounds awesome! Just be mindful of customs, traveling with more than one watch across national borders.

I should be OK I think as when we disembark the ship each time I will only have one watch with me.

Happy Birthday, Craig! Enjoy your vacation.
