Thank you, Uncle Seiko!

I love my Alpinist 1959 reinterpretation, but even though the bracelet is actually very nice by Seiko standards, one of the glaring flaws is that the relatively long links + no half links + only 2 holes of micro adjust, means that finding a comfortable initial fit is difficult enough, and accounting for wrist-swell is even harder! haha. This simple $10 clasp cover from Uncle Seiko was a breeze to swap, and finally got me a great fit! Not to mention, it’s a bit slimmer as well. 5 stars, would recommend!

Thanks for the tip @Peter1234!

Here’s the link, for anyone interested.

Cool!! Awesome dang et! I should have purchased one when I got a new bracelet for my Willard … oh well

I don’t know why bracelet fit is still an issue. Building a movement with dozens of tiny parts that is accurate to a few seconds a day is no problem, but a bracelet clasp with 4 holes is an impossible task.

Larry has got an excellent business and deserves all the praise he can get.

I'll be taking a beads of rice bracelet off his hands in the near future for my Turtle.

The president looks good on willard too, the rounded links work with the case. Uncle bracelets comes with a nice divers clasp and its not bulky like most aftermarket variants so it should be good.

New Willard variants are coming soon so you will have options 😂

Yup I saw one with a mountain in the background !! I might go with that one lol

If I'm not mistaken, there is a bit of a gap between the clasp & bracelet when its closed. Has this swap alleviated some of that or did this model not really have that issue?

Definitely helped with that. It may not be a massive difference, but I feel like it doesn’t catch on clothing and stuff as much.

Can anyone explain how to get this clasp off?!

·

Hey @Robair, I’m assuming that’s one of the 1959 Alpinist Re-interpretations like mine. For me, the trick was to use a springbar pin tool (see below) to push each of the ends of that clasp springbar in and apply gentle pulling pressure to keep them retracted. Then, simultaneously depress both clasp pushers until they go into the clasp cover ie clear of the pusher cutouts, then gently slide the clasp mechanism out of the clasp cover. Install of the new cover is the same, just in reverse.

Hope that helps!

I don’t see the bar on your photos. Does your original Seiko clasp also have one like that holding the spring bar in place?

It looks like you got the spring bar ends pushed in 👍. (That bar stays in place until you get the cover all the way off) Now you just have to depress one of those pushers in all the way, until they kind of “pop” out of their cutouts. If that makes sense. Then the clasp cover should be free.

Oh now I understand thank you so so much!!

I didn’t know that’s how it works! (Neither did my watch dealer who offered to change it for me) there’s another post on the forum of someone asking the same thing. And I looked all over YouTube. This is super useful info.

Thank you so so much. I have one one follow up question when that spring bar comes out from the clasp cover is it supposed to stay intact. The spring and one end cap fell out of mine thankfully it bounced off my ear so I found it easily and popped it back in ( it doesn’t stay in on its own) but it was finicky. Don’t wanna pop it out again. Do you know the size? I’ll order a spare or few spares lol.

thanks again!!!

You’re welcome! Glad it worked for you! That little claps makes a big difference in comfort, right?

As for the bar size, I haven’t taken calipers to it, but Uncle Seiko lists the clasp cover at 18mm, which I believe should also be the specified width of that springbar. 🍻

·

Just found this post, there are 2 different clasp sizes, 16mm and 18mm, do you know which size you used?

My feeling towards Swatch Group and every other brand that puts a butterfly clasp on a are exactly this. The you’re paying a lot of money, you as a customer are entitled to a good fit
