One and Done??

For 2023 and beyond, my collecting goals were to add some types of watches that weren’t represented in my current collection : A grail, an affordable GMT, a full Titanium, and something with a lumed dial.

The grail is more of a long term thing, and GMT-wise, I had been tempted by the Seiko SSK on several occasions, but had ultimately decided against it, knowing micros would soon be taking delivery of the NH34.

As for Ti and lume prospects, I was looking at adding one of those super titanium eco drive Citizens, or maybe an Islander Sands point.

That’s a lot of watches.

Enter the RZE Ascentus; a watch that seemingly ticks every single box, all in one package, and all under $600. So I promptly listed a few watches that were on a shaky nail, and pulled the trigger on the Ascentus.

It arrived today, and while I’m clearly basking in the rosy glow of that new watch honeymoon stage. The early impressions are nothing short of exceptional. Perfect dimensions, an outstanding bracelet, crazy light weight, and an absolute lume monster. I have no doubt this will be getting a lot of wrist time.

That's a great watch! RZE Acentus ticks a lot of my boxes also. You have done well!

Enjoy that bad boy!

Cheers!

RZE is on my list for several months now. Went for Citizen for my first titanium but if I want to add one, RZE will be on top of my list. Great piece mate, wishing you an endless honeymoon

Hello DeKalb, Morris here. I bought this same exact watche/color the day he released them. It sorta burned in my mind as the watch I wore through this year's Christmas polar vortex drop that kept most of us locked away for a week. Ironically, those who complain it's not a True GMT are the same people wearing divers' watches that don't even sit in a bathtub. It's a sleek little watch. I've yet to really find a watchband that seems to fit its personallity.

The hex band that came with it has this odd tendency to kink a couple of times a week and refuses to snap back to normal. It does so though on its own. It gets more wrist time than my Hamilton. The Hammy is a more comfortable wear but with no AR on the crystal, it's constantly blinding pilots as they approach O'Hare.

All in all the watch is a bit of a clone of his Endeavour watch, which I managed to find one last 'Resuce Orange' version just before I got the Acentus Polar white. Can't wait to see what's next.

Appreciate your take, neighbor! 👍

I think you’re right on about the whole “NoT a TrUe GMT” crowd. If you’re a jet setter, you can probably afford another watch that’ll do what you need.

An office GMT works for me, as my company has a branch in another state. Necessary? Nah. Fun to have a tool for the job? Absolutely.

As for the bracelet, I had heard similar things regarding binding/hair pulling, but no issues yet. We’ll see as it wears in and perhaps the gaps spread a bit. But right now, I find it super comfortable.

P.S. I’ve been looking at straps as well, just to have options. It’s definitely not a cross stitched leather kind of watch. I’m thinking textured rubber on a deployant, or maybe one of those hybrid silicone backed sailcloths.

"Strapseeker Theo Hybrid Nylon & FKM Rubber Performance Watch Band- Replacement " from Amazon? I sent mine back. The ends of the straps rubbed up against the lugs and it put a small tear in the "fabric" surface. By the next day it had spread down the length of the band. I have a similar one on my citizen Promaster, no problems there at all. But I think I'm done with Strapseeker.

Yup, that's the one. Dang. Thanks for the heads up!
