BULOVA Time!!

“I’m done with any more watch acquisitions for a while” …yeeaahhh… about that…

In all seriousness, despite not looking for new pieces, the opportunity to flip my Orient Sun and Moon for this pair of gorgeous vintage-inspired BULOVAs presented itself, and I jumped at it!

While some of their more “department store” designs have been a bit hit-or-miss over the past few decades, BULOVA’s back catalog has some incredible pieces, and I’ve always been intrigued by their contributions to American horological history (would love to own a Spaceview someday). On numerous occasions, I’ve even added vintage examples to my eBay cart, but never pulled the trigger (not brave enough to jump into vintage just yet). So I’m hoping these will scratch the vintage itch, but with a bit of modern wearability and reliability.

Love the Sinatra line of Bulova. Love your watches! Bulova is an excellent watchmaker along with it's own horological history.

Cheers!

Congrats! I’m not sure what that blue dial model is, but it is sharp!

So far, it seems like it was a steal! The Miyota 8000 series (I think) is nothing special, but the case finishing is excellent, the dial and handset are simple but lovely (they even have a handy amount of lume), and the smaller size is really comfortable. It’s sort of a dress watch with some field watch DNA, which I really dig. Ditched the stock strap immediately though.

Honestly, I love that they replicated the styling, proportions and even the “SELFWINDING” text on the dial from the 1960s Clippers. All in all, if you can snag one at or below $100, I’d say it’s a solid buy imo.

Thanks! Like NightWatch said, it’s an American Clipper special edition from Macy’s. I got it secondhand though, so not sure when it was original purchased.

Here’s a cool vintage BULOVA ad for the original Clipper line: https://youtu.be/V_DZeYSZ-4g

Dang $49.50, or with the easiest of credit terms!

And in the charm and color of natural gold, too!

I almost bought one of those and I am still kicking myself for letting it get away! The face on that watch is beautiful if you see it in color.

Great watches..I grew up with Bulova....very popular watches. I like the Sinatra inspired pieces also.enjoy

I also lean towards vintage influenced watches (but I don't have any interest in owning an actual old watch). I picked up an American Clipper (at Costco) about 8 weeks ago and I really like it.

I may have to pick up a blue cross stitched strap like that! Excellent pairing 👌

Thanks - it's just a $19 Ritche from Amazon. I like the look & I find it very comfortable https://a.co/d/1j4R1rI

I love Bulova and their history. I have come to the conclusion that my favorite brands are Timex, Bulova, Longiens and Hamilton. Timex is a great watch and the next 3 are worthy of the Timepiece title.

Good flip.

Congrats on the new acquisition(s)! Bulova is a famous old New York company and was considered top shelf back in the day.

Beautiful watches. Gotta check my Costco the next time I'm there.

A Bulova is definitely entering my collection this year. The new Bulova blue panda Lunar Pilot kills two 2 birds with one stone: blue panda (for the Snoopy Moonwatch that I will never see in the metal) and a HAQ. Just gotta wait for the Christmas Macy's coupons.

·

The only Bulova watch that I currently own is the PVD coated Accutron II 98B247 (Lobster) but I do see myself getting the newer smaller Lunar Pilot this year.

Also a fan of the Clipper. I have the seemingly less popular black dialed version because I am boring. 😂 I like the Sinatra line as well, though I wish they just put his name on the caseback vs the dial. Regardless, beautiful watches!

Just scored this bad boy off Jomashop.

Just bought a Bulova Surveyor and it should arrive next week or so.

I LOVE what you showed in the post, @GullibleAndroid, they are 💯 gorgeous! 😍 Are they available somewhere (back catalog? what's that?) or was this a nice private score on your part?

Hey thanks! Love the Surveyor btw! Awesome DayDate vibes :)

When I mentioned “back catalog” I really mean their historic pieces they haven’t reissued (but really wish they would!).

Story goes like this: I had a good bit of internest in an Orient Sun and Moon I had and really never wore, and was able to flip it for almost exactly what I paid. Found these BULOVAs from an eBay seller in Minnesota and thought they seemed unique enough to take a chance. :)

The American Clipper (blue dial) was pre-owned and a Macy’s special edition from a couple of years ago. The Sinatra, I can’t seem to find much information about, unfortunately. Looks like it may have been a Costco special edition, but I can’t be sure. It’s the only automatic rectangular case Sinatra that I am aware of, as the “My Way” watches are small second quartz.

Really been enjoying these, it’s nice to have some vintage style options but not have the headache of keeping old watches ticking.

I will keep my eye out for them on the used market. Really love those, and thanks for taking the time to explain! 🍻
