I need a G-Shock (apparently) HELP!

I want to understand what the love is all about, so…if I were to have just one Casio G-Shock which would be considered the best all-rounder?

That's a good question. It depends on what you want to do with it and how much you want to spend. For a first one, you can't beat the original square for between 50 to 80 US dollars, depending on where you get it. If you want something with more tech, look into the new Casioaks with solar power and Bluetooth for somewhere around 150 US dollars.

·

I'd say start with one of the square ones, they're the most reasonably sized.  They come in tons of colors, they do the job, and they aren't overly aggressive.

·

I'd also add that one of the selling points is that they're relatively cheap.  Go ahead and buy one, you won't be out much money, and one of the G Shock mavens on here will probably buy it from you if you don't like it.

·

Casio GA2100 series or GMA2100 series for smaller wrist types.  best value for around $100 dollars.

I love Star Wars, I love G-Shocks.

If someone who wasn't a teenager or younger came to me and said "I guess I need to watch Star Wars. Where do I start?" my first question would be "Why do you need to watch Star Wars?"

If the answer was "Someone told me to." my response would be the same as I'm giving you, "Do it because you want to, not because everyone said you should."

Is it possible they (and you) can still appreciate the stories/watch if you only get into them because everyone else said you should? Yes.

Is it more likely that experiencing something only because everyone else said to leads to hating of the thing you are told to experience? Based on my experiences, absolutely.

The desire must come from within before we really are able to appreciate anything.

What I would recommend is go look at the models available & if one speaks to you, then try it out. If not, then no harm.

I’m not trying to answer some existential question here - just asking that, should I be ‘G curious’, what epitomises the experience in peoples opinions.

I can make my own mind up, have Amazon vouchers from Christmas and a ‘devil may care’ about them…

I mean, it’s not like I’m saying help me spend $20k - whats a good luxury watch…. this is an area of the hobby that many people have experience in and wanted their views, nothing more :)

I love my 5610u. Much more than my Casioak (which just looks good).

Watch this...

Don't start with a GA-2100... Regardless of what people say about them "wearing well", they are still massive and not as comfortable as videos seem to make them out to be.

You're likely best trying a square of some flavour.

👀👀 I just discovered how much of a touchy subject G-Shock is.
Make sure you declare your undying love and claim ‘it does everything I want from a watch’ every time  you speak on it.
Also, throw it off of a building just to prove how durable it is. I’m sure that will grow your fondness even more!
😂😂😅😅 (I’m just messing before you all come for me)

Don't worry it will find you...

·

Get the solar 5610-1, it's served me well.

·

To be honest, buy the cheapest and model that suits you, if you are in the UK, make sure the date is the right way round.

You can’t really go wrong with GW-M5610-1ER, but look for the European version if the date bothers you.

or

If you want a more analog feel try GA-2100-1A1ER, voted won of the best watched of 2022.

you can easily replace the straps if you don’t want the resin or bubbler straps, and get guards to cover the crystal for a little more protection.

have fun searching for a G-Shock

Has to be the DW5600. It’s the original.

My experience is the opposite. I’ve not owned other G-Shocks, but the Casioak wears very well on my wrist.

Another vote for the 5610, I wear one daily for work and I always struggle to find anything else in my collection that does everything as well and as comfortably as it does.

·

5610 is my favorite. reviewed it recently

The main reason I went with the 5610 is the nostalgia...I remember the watch from 1983...I'm assuming this will not be a factor for you?  😂

Besides that...it's small and it's versatile along with a host of other things people have mentioned

All of these watches are easy to get (for those of us in the US literally anywhere) I would think in the UK it shouldn't be hard to get hands on...try some different models on and see what works for you

Did you get one?

Did you get one?

I didn’t actually.

It was something that my Jedi friend said:

‘If the answer was "Someone told me to." my response would be the same as I'm giving you, "Do it because you want to, not because everyone said you should."’

With that in mind, I took a different tack. I sold all but 2 of my automatics… the one on my wrist and one that is yet to sell.

I didn’t feel that G-Shock spoke to me (yet anyway) and I have stuck with my regular daily wear and additional funds. I will consider that before my next move.
