Yesterday, after waiting more than a month, the replacement parts for my original Casio DW-5600E arrived. This was actually my 2nd G-Shock. The 1st being the original DW-5600 with steel case.
I wore this in college, but the resin strap disintegrated with age/use. The watch ended up in a box where it stayed for many years and many moves. When those boxes FINALLY started to get unpacked, I rediscovered it and found the bezel too was cracked and falling apart. With the marvel that is the Internet I was able to get the necessary replacement parts and it can resume its roll as my beater.
The last pic shows it alongside my newer GMW-B5000D-1. Lacking the amount of steel, the DW is obviously MUCH lighter at about 47g compared to the 151g of the GMW.
I definitely like the connected and solar functions of the GMW, and the expectation that it will probably not fall apart like the DW did, but I find the DW a tad easier to read, and I prefer the date notation with the dash separating the month and day.
One thing I really hate about this GMW are the fixed end links which bring its overall length to just under 63 mm (as I measured it). Thankfully, wearing it doesn't seem to be a problem for me and it's rather comfortable, but it can't compete with the DW in that category.

Both are great, pleased you got your 5600 back on the road.
