Omega Aqua Terra 8900 review & opinions
I was looking at various Aqua Terra for several months. Trying to decide on a dial color & size. Also talking myself into spending upwards of $5,000+ on a watch.
Finally saw this one, described as green, but actually a grayish green (maybe more of a greenish gray), leaning heavily to the gray side. 42mm (41.5) on a leather strap. I prefer most watches on a strap over a bracelet (Speedmaster is the exception)
Bought it in the Gray Market (WatchMaxx) for well under retail, making my decision much easier.
Keeps damn near perfect time. So far, for the 1st 8-9 days after winding, it gains barely 1-2 second (that's total, not daily). Generally, after that, at settles down to about 1 second per day gain, slightly under, actually. Well within Metas specs. The 8900 movement has the quick set hour hand, while the other movement, the 8800 in the 38mm size, has the quick date set. The 8900 allows changing the hour hand without hacking the second hand, so it's more handy when travelling or changing to & from Daylight Savings Time. Since I rarely, if ever, bother setting the date, and the size is more to my liking, the quick set hour hand is better for me.
Very comfortable, and it looks good on my wrist.
Out of the 15+ warches I have, this is 1 of only 2 that I will probably never sell. The other is my Father's Omega Seamaster Chronograph from 72-73. Sentimental value puts the Chronograph at far more than anyone would be willing to pay. But, $25,000 might (MIGHT) get me thinking about it.
All in all, this is pretty damn near a perfect watch.
