Miami Baby! A two watch mini-collection to celebrate the Sunshine State!

Hi Everybody,

I am excited to write my first post on WC ❤️

My wife and I recently welcomed into our life our first baby daughter. We will be spending a month in the Miami area to meet her family out of Canada.

This was the perfect excuse to get me some new watches to celebrate the occasion. The brief to myself (I know, I am weird like that) was that I had to pick 2 watches that would be complimentary, useful (or not) while travelling and that would fit well the Sunshine State environment. Ah and the budget would need to be 500€ max, with tax and shipping.

Thanks to great Black Friday deals, I was able to pick up the amazing Seiko 5 GMT in Orange (SSK005K1) for 312€ and the Mr Jones « a lazy afternoon » for 192€ (including engraving). Needless to say that I am more than happy with both timepieces (reviews to come). They are different in almost every way but both fit the bill perfectly for our Miami adventure.

Do you agree? What would be your 2 watch collection to celebrate all thing Miami?

That’s a lovely pair!

i can’t think of anything better for the price.

in a different bracket - my gold rolex day date is my LA watch. But I think it would work for Miami too!

Nice watches, they'll serve you well in Miami.  Unfortunately, everybody will be too busy checking out each other's platinum Daytonas to notice, but I'm sure you'll enjoy them.

Great choices

This wonderful Day-Date would indeed be perfect! Clearly an other league and actually a grail watch for me. What a nice piece!

Haha you are probably right. To be frank, I will probably be far away from the places where you would spot platinum Daytonas.

Welcome to WC and congratulations on the new addition to your family 🎉

Gorgeous pair of watches you have there!

I think it’s the bargain grail. Around $10k - cheaper than steel and almost “worth its weight in gold.”

Congrats on the kiddo and new watches. I did something similar pending my arrivals soon. Love the choices here, well done.

Welcome and congratulations on the new addition. Nice two watch Miami set.

My Miami choices - one for seaside bling and afternoons on the water; one just for fun (and swimming):

Welcome to The Show!

Congratulations on the baby.  Your life is going to be absolutely dominated by the new kid, so having a hobby helps to keep you connected to the outside world.

·

Agree! (Never been to Miami, just like the watches)

Congrats to the family!!

I actually had my eyes set on a modern one (hence the grail Price tag) but now looking at vintage ones I indeed realize that you are right, there are some beauties for a decent price. Would you have a view on the reference to look out for? Any specific Day Date resources I should tap into?

Many thanks Rob - I love your choices! My wife is actually eying the Zodiac Watermelon, it almost made the cut for Miami. Your Titanium looks really nice.

Haha thanks Horologuitarist. I am a serial hobbyist with a pretty intense job, let see how all this goes once I am back in the trenches. But you are right, I need something to keeps connected to the outside worlds and take me out of dirty nappies ;)

Definitely 18038. Has the sapphire Crystal and single quickset.

Make sure the President bracelet isn’t too stretched.

Consider an interesting dial - eg black. Though the basic champagne one I have does add to the “gold bar”  look.

Wearing my GMT also today... I thought I got a good deal at $360. Although I wanted the orange I do love this one!

Ended up with a Tudor Pelagos LHD. I prob should’ve been more judicious and chosen multiple watches like you did, but I will only have twins once.

I was honestly not expecting to love that watch so much. It feels very different in black actually, the gmt hand pops out more in red vs black than in black vs orange. Enjoy this one and maybe get the orange one later ;)

Very fine choice, and congrats on the twins. Cannot imagine the whirlwind that it must be. I went down the rabbit hole by getting multiple “affordable” watches, I should be close to 10 new watches since our little one was born 3 months ago 🤦‍♂️ will actually write a post on that once I have them all in one place. it bears the question of One 🫰watch vs many…no right answer there I guess ;) PS: really liked your pélagos  post !
