Gasworks cocks it up....

So... I've been slowly restoring the above Seiko for the past couple of weeks. Refurbished the case, bracelet and fitted a new crystal. Then serviced the movement. Its running nicely now.

However.....

When I was servicing... I managed to drip a tiny amount of B-Dip (used to clean the balance spring) on the dial. So, the dial that was actually perfect, now has a tiny white dot (near the 12 marker).

So... its now a one of a kind Gasworks custom.

I have given myself a pretty hard time as I'm supposed to be improving them... I'm currently wearing my "I am an idiot" T-Shirt.

For those of you who voted for it on the poll... sorry chaps.

Live and learn.  I've destroyed so much stuff its not even funny.  I changed the bracelet on my 321 Speedy and didn't make sure the spring bars firmly clicked into place.  I put the watch on my wrist and a few minutes later it let go and went flying onto the tile floor.  The original crystal, and bezel were destroyed along with a balance jewel.

You're being way too hard on yourself - that looks to me like a big fat nothing-burger. The watch looks great.

·

You can barely see it and the watch still looks amazing.

Jesus... If this bothers you I daren't tell you the amount of scratches my Gasworks Seikos have accumulated through strap changes 😬 It's all the fun process of personalisation in my opinion.

I've been there. An expensive dial and a tiny scratch mark where the dial protector didn't cover the dial. Nobody sees it, right? Yeah, nobody but me. I can try to ignore it, but it was like Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart" ... the more I tried to ignore it, the less I could.

I wish you luck ...

As a DIY craftsman, I see all my mistakes.

No one else does, but I do.

I really need to stop pointing them out to people.

Wow! I feel your pain!! That sucks bullocks!! If that makes any sense…but yeah that’s gonna haunt me for a while…

is there a way to get some sort of a paint or cleaner? I guess you might have gone that route already… yeah now you can just call it”distressed dial” 😉

·

If it really pains you then could you just embrace it and experiment with purposefully distressing the dial?

That Rolex is listed for 14,750USD so there may be a few quid in it 😁

Yeah.. I meant to do it. It's now worth double

It doesn't detract from your usual high standard of refurbishment. But I still feel your pain! That would bother me too!
