Reviewing the new OVD F/01

I just received a watch I ordered on Kickstarter in Sept. ‘22. I wasn’t reluctant to do this as they have done these successfully in the past. I like the looks immediately as I’m a big car guy and this Gulf livery brings me back to when I first became aware of race cars, LeMans, then Ford, Steve McQueen in the ‘60’s and 70’s (I’m old on the calendar and young in the heart)

Back to the watch. Miyota 9122, they call it a Premium Automatic, 3 hand, hacking and day, date and month. SS matt finished case and sunburst dial, the combination I really like. 41mm, 22mm tapered lugs, 47.5mm lug-to-lug and the lugs are asymmetric, 12 end are shorter than 6 end. Look closely and you can see it in the photos. 14mm thick with domed and coated sapphire crystal and display back (more photos). It came with two straps, a nice heavy yet soft vintage leather and high quality orange rubber and I also bought a Gulf livery NATO. I’ll go between the leather and the NATO depending on my mode as the band is quick release.

To me this is a fun watch, like all of them now that I think about it. It wears it’s size with the tapers lugs, the leather strap is comfortable on my 7” wrist.

So far, a few hours in, I’m happy with my decision to buy. It was shipped in a nice box with fair attention to detail for the cost, came from HK and I think they did a good job of keeping the Kickstarter community informed, actually shipped a little earlier than projected.

There were 4 different dial color combinations, black/white (red accents), light blue (this one), dark blue/beige and green/beige (for the British racing fans I guess). I had trouble deciding between the black and this, with the red it looked great but the Gulf colors sold me on this. Oh ya, it has an orange crown that looks like a Ford GT wheel and is nicely sized for the watch and for use.

It cost me less than 300USD, a fair price considering this isn’t just an 8215 but a caliber with good reviews and is in a category above 8215’s and NH24/35’s.

I’m happy with my decision and I try not to compare this to my Tudor, Rolex or Omega or even Christopher Ward or Tissot but more like the Spinnaker, Wise Timepieces, Steal Dive or Aquatico. Better than the last two not as good as the first two but worth the price.

That’s a 1/8 scale Porsche 917 I’m building.😀

Thanks for the excellent review of an interesting piece. 👍

Great review 😉

I was very close on pulling the trigger on this one, loved the color-way and history but a tad on the larger side for me 😅

Nonetheless, a great looking piece!

I bought the same watch in Nov 2023. Same colour too. Everything is great except the time accuracy. It's faster by approx 4 minutes in every 24 hours.

I saw this so I’m wearing it today. Just put it on the time grapher, +91 sec. 0.5 beat error (which is high). When I got it about a year ago, +35/.04. Miyota spec. Is -10/+35. I didn’t see beat error spec. but I’ll keep looking. Miyota says this is a Premium caliber. A $25 Seiko NH34/35 is a lot better, at least the 5 I have in my collection all between +5/-6. I’m going to try and adjust it, maybe. I’ll let you know if I do how it come out.
