There are a lot of tutorials online to polish mineral crystal with polywatch solutions or other creative compounds such as toothpaste. It's harder and takes more time than acrylic (plastic), but it can be done.

There is a special polywatch product for mineral glass that should work. Don't use toothpaste or the polywatch made for acrylic, they are not abrasive enough.
Practically, not really. Just wait till you pick up enough scratches to be ready for a sapphire upgrade.
